tvtd4u Posted June 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2005 Can someone direct me to some local "Discover Scuba" companies that I can book before I get there. My wife and I have done a "resort" dive a couple of years ago in Mexico. We don't have the time to get certified at home, but loved the freedom of scuba. Maybe one day when the kids are on their own we will get certified. Thanks,
bruce-r Posted June 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2005 It would help us to know exactly which islands you will be visiting in the Southern Caribbean.
tvtd4u Posted June 19, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted June 19, 2005 Oranjestad; Willemstad; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; Charlotte Amalie, St.Thomas Thanks, Happy Cruising
bruce-r Posted June 20, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2005 Oranjestad; Willemstad; Pelican adventures Philipsburg, St. Maarten; I wouldn't try diving here. I would go to Orient Beach on the French side. Charlotte Amalie, St.Thomas http://www.cokidive.comMy son did the bubble makers with them and after it was over, I did a regular dive. Very nice people. Also good for non-divers since they can hang at the beach or snorkel while you discover.
stingraynz Posted June 29, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2005 I agree with Bruce. Coki beach is good for St Thomas. Pretty Good dive spot there for discover right from the shore and other family members can enjoy the beach. I did not find the diving too great in St Maarten. The diving will be better in Aruba & Curacao.
sea-jay Posted June 30, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 30, 2005 tvtd4u - You comment about not having time to 'get certified' at home struck me as humouous given your signature. I, too, waited until children were gone, new home built, etc, etc, etc. Now, at the age retirement, I look back at all the vacations we took that I could have been scuba diving and didn't because I only got certified two years ago. Getting certified only takes a couple of evenings over a period of a month or so. As nike says; "Just do it" Happy bubbles.
augie Posted June 30, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2005 Or get your kids certified, too. My fourteen year old has been diving with my wife and I for two years now, and my twelve year old just did his open water check out dives this past weekend. Sure, it will cost more when we all go, but it's something we can do together, and if they love it as much as we do, it will be something that we'll still be able to do together once they've grown up and moved out. I can't wait to send out our family picture Christmas card this year - of all of us underwater!
sea-jay Posted June 30, 2005 #8 Share Posted June 30, 2005 Augie - I noticed you are from Melbourne. Join us on the Florida cruisers thread. We are planning a short luncheon cruise on the Sterling Casino boat out of Port Canaveral in August. We just finished a cruise on the St John's river boat out of Sanford. Actually, we get together once or twice a year just to chat. Newcomers are always welcome since we all have cruising in common. Our link is: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=4104104#post4104104 I noticed you will be on the SOS next week. DW and I will be sailing her in November. Let us know how the refurb worked out.
