Live and Almost Live from Carnival Sunshine, May 17-26, 2013

Recommended Posts

Bon Jour, SS...........

Wanted to make certain to take the time, once again, to thank you so very much for all the time and effort you've been kind enough to invest to share the wonderful pictures as well as specific information about the Sunshine with all of us.

Your patience in answering so many specific questions has really been remarkable.........and has served to not only answer those questions for those who posted them, but also to educate all of us on the "Board" here.

I hope you've had a wonderful vacation, and have a safe journey back 'State-Side'

Thanks, again!:D

Ps i forgot to ask, is there a strict dress code for the casino at Monte Carlo

No dress code, but a passport is required to enter, A young couple from Australia dressed very nice (him in suit her in dress) but left their passport on the ship, couldn't enter. They scan your passport and print you an entrance ticket with your name. The guy on the entance didn't speak english and it took a while to understand what we had to do.

My wife and her two sisters played the slots, not as good a selection as on the ship.

Gotta admit it - they did a nice job on that ship. We were on it when it was the Destiny. It was ok, nothing to write home about but it sure is nice to see a Carnival ship that doesn't look like a disco through the eyes of someone on wild mushrooms. They did a very nice job here. If they ever get their food improved a bit, I could see trying her out for a short 4 day.

Hi Sargent Schultz. Thanks for posting all the great pictures of the Sunshine !! I really appreciate your efforts. :)

I have a question I hope you can answer. What is it like on Deck 1 (is it very dark or like a basement ?) and have there been any cabin problems with flooding or toilets not working on the lowest level ? we're sailing in July and have never been on Carnival before and have never been so low on previous boats.

Hi have they said when pool and mini golf will be open

Another post by someone in the know said that the pool might night be ready until it leaves Europe, as it may need some time at drydock.

Aim has reported that DD Dave told her it may not be open in Europe at all this summer, we're waiting for the details when he gets back home tomorrow. Which will be a bit of a downer in the summer when all the European kids arrive, including mine. :(

Think it a shame if pool isn't open in summer August when there will be lots of kids on when we have paid for these thing we got a 2&7 yr old will there be any pool facility's for children

They are letting kids in the Serenity pool at the moment, but I imagine that there are not many kids on board right now plus the weather hasn't been great so not exactly pool weather.

The serenity pool certainly won't hold 30 excited kids in August, it's not very big.

Are you sure that they are letting kids in the Serenity pool? I think SS said there have been none in that pool. It really should stay adults only. Kids can use waterworks until the mail pool is open. No poopy diapers in the Serenity, please.

1) You cant swim in the waterworks

2) Kids who are toilet trained should only be using the pool facilities anyway

Thing is my kids are 14 & 18 & if there'is no pool we certainly won't be travelling. Have asked John what's the problem ? if it doesn't need a visit to dry dock when will it be open...

I read they let them in the pool on the inaugural cruise and nothing has changed since then with regards to pool availability. I think there have been none in the pool this cruise because it has been mostly raining, I don't think there have been many adults in the pool either. SS can confirm.

John Heald has posted these comments on Facebook:

"where oh where did you hear this............oh hold on......I just saw a comment on Dave Metzger's question...........Cruise Critic. What a shocker. Nope, not true. I will let you know when the resort pool will open but we hope to open as soon as possible. If you want the facts please come here Toni. cheers"

"Our technicians continue to work behind the scenes on an issue affecting one of our newly renovated spaces, the resort pool (not affecting the adjacent resort whirlpools, which are open). We sincerely regret not being able to provide you with a firm estimate on when the resort pool will open, but we hope to open as soon as possible."

"We hope to have it open as soon as possible", that's a definitive answer if I ever heard one lol!!

I realise they let kids in the Serenity pool but 3k people in 35 degree heat in Europe, just asking for trouble.

That does suck. I don't think opening Serenity to kids solves the problem. Your solution is probably best--if you are cruising for the main pool, then cancel if it won't be open (but I would not expect a refund).

I'm sure DDD will give us more info when he comes back, but so far he has been spot on with info, so I suspect the problems are not easily fixed. Perhaps without a dry dock, but it does seem serious (20 days and counting, and you know it must be a priority). Hopefully, it will be open by the time I cruise next month, but they better not cancel my cruise to fix it! :-)

I think everyone is jumping the gun - I am sure they are doing their best to fix whatever needs fixing and that the pool will be open before the really hot weather and kids arrive - no point in worrying about your cruise in August now.....too much wasted energy :) (you can worry about it later of course!! ).....:D

Don't take this the wrong way, but cancelling without a refund is not a better suggestion than allowing children in the only pool on the ship.
