nednrom Posted June 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2005 We are taking Star Princess to St. Vincent, Grenada, St Lucia and Martinique in December. Does anyone know what the lingering effects of hurricane Ivan are on Grenada? If there is anyone else who has done this itinerary, please give me info on what you liked and what you would avoid next time. thanks, Rom. :)
sunprincess Posted June 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2005 We went to Grenada in March. Very, very sad. They are struggling to come back after the hurricaine damage they suffered. Many homes were still without roofs, etc. The structural damage was unreal. That said, some buildings looked untouched, while others totally destroyed. sunprincess Posted June 21, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 21, 2005 PS I do have some pictures from Grenada in my webshots albums. Look for the Golden Princess Album Part 1. http://community.webshots.com/user/sunprincess8
Eddie4Paws Posted June 21, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 21, 2005 I was there in December. Yes, very sad with alot of damage. The damage to the landscape in the mountains was extensive, and it will take years for the beautiful trees to grow back. There really wasn't much shopping, either as most of the stores were closed. Lady Vidora Posted June 21, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2005 I know it's a ways away, but please post a note about how the trip was. That's one of the itineraries we're looking at.
nednrom Posted June 21, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted June 21, 2005 Lady Vidora, this site has helped me a lot so I will post a review as soon I get back -- watch for it beginning of January. It's a 10 day cruise. Rom
cynbar Posted June 21, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 21, 2005 We were there on the Golden Princess in April. It's true that there is still hurricane damage, but the rebuilding is going forward, and the attitude of the citizens seemed very positive for us. The island is still beautiful, with lots of vegetation (and monkeys!), although many of the nutmeg trees were destroyed, so i don't know what that will mean for their spice business. We enjoyed Grenada, it was the most unspoiled island we went to. Shopping is not a big draw there, but most visitors come home with a small straw basket filled with locally grown spices, so look for those. Here is a link to our webshots: http://community.webshots.com/user/cynbar101. The pictures from 4/27 are from Grenada. We took the ship's island tour because we hadn't been there before, but it seemed too long and redundant. A better bet would be hiring a private taxi driver and negotiating a price for a tour -- others did this and had good luck, plenty of taxi drivers at the pier!! nednrom Posted June 22, 2005 Author #8 Share Posted June 22, 2005 Thanks Cynbar. We had planned on taking a taxi and doing that to see the whole island. I think the ship tours can get too expensive.
