portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #101 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Is the Cheers package for 8 days close to $900 now? We paid $693 on our 7 day but you said you paid $804. That's a big increase! We didn't get it the first day so yes for the 2nd day it was 804.
portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #102 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Your expectations are very realistic. Fortunately I only experienced quiet when I was there no matter the day/who was there. Thanks for letting me know. I enjoyed the spa so much!

portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #104 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Sailing on the Breeze January 2014 and am loving your review. Am going to bookmark it and re-read it every month until then. Wonderful pictures. (We are New Englanders transplanted to NC. Love Maine) We love Maine too and it really is the "vacation" state. If you have any questions just ask away. portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #106 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Day 4 La Romana We started our day at the breakfast buffet and tried the eggs and didn’t care for them but the rest of the food was good. We could have gone to the Omelet station but it had a really long line and we didn’t want to wait. DH liked the French toast and he thought the coffee was great. Again, we had no problems finding a table. All our meals on Lido either by the pool or in the buffet we were lucky enough to always get tables right by the window which I loved always being able to see the water. We went to Dreams which is an all-inclusive resort. We emailed the resort to get reservations and our names were checked off when we arrived at the guardhouse as we entered the property. The cost was $60.00 per person for a day pass and it included use of the beach, an infinity pool, lounge chairs, and all the food and drinks you wanted. We shared a cab with Lisa and her friend whom I “met” on the cruise critic roll call. The cost of the cab was 90.00 for the 4 of us and that was round trip and we paid the driver when he picked up back up at the end of the day. The ride to and from Dreams was like being on an amusement park ride! The driver was friendly but wow did he go fast and the roads were bumpy! It was only about 20 minutes from the port and when we arrived DH had to leave his driver’s license for a deposit and we picked it back up at the reservation desk when we left for the day. The resort was beautiful.
portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #107 Share Posted May 27, 2013 You could have whatever you wanted for drinks such as cocktails, beer, soda or whatever. There was a bar right on the beach. We just drank water which was bottled. We walked around the property and it was really nice. The servers kept coming up and asking if you wanted anything. They had a fruit carving stand on the beach where you could get all the fresh fruit you wanted. We walked around the resort There were 2 huge pools one had a swim up bar The beach was really nice and the water was calm. Towards the end of the day I wanted to try the Infinity Pool because I have never been in one and I got this beautiful photo This is the main pool
MickCruiser Posted May 27, 2013 #108 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Also, late at night the Tandor changes from Indian food to hotdogs, brownies, ham and cheese sandwiches, buffalo chicken sandwiches and little snacks. We went back to Pizza Pirate most nights and there were never many people at Tandor so I am not sure if people know about it but it was a great place for a snack. See...after an 8 day cruise, still learning about new things. Can't wait until March 2014!!! :) Nice review...thanks for the memories!!!
portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #109 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Even though there was a buffet set right up the beach we opted to go to the dining room for lunch. The buffet on the beach was hamburgers and hotdogs. On the way we saw flamingos! The buffet was huge and there were a lot tables and they had a server to bring you drinks. Our lunch was We got picked up by our driver and headed back to the ship. Here are views from our balcony. I know baseball is huge there. The gift shop/bar which is right before the walk way to the ship Going out to lunch now so will finish up trying the dining room again and our win in the casino when I get back. This is my first photo review and I didn't realize the time it took! But I am doing my best!!

Leo's Rule Posted May 27, 2013 #112 Share Posted May 27, 2013 I think my husband is handsome too. portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #114 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Do you have the website where you emailed the resort for day pass reservations? The email address is econcierge.drelr@dreamsresorts.com and the person I emailed is Louise Coley. She replied the same day to me but others have reported that it took a few days. I emailed a few months ahead of time and then again 2 weeks before the cruise. They only allow a limited abount of people to use the day passes based on how many are already staying at the resort. Well worth the 60.00 per person for all the drinks and food you want. Have fun!
portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #115 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Day 4 La Romana (continued) We decided to give the dining room another try. We went at 7:00 and were seated immediately. DH said we wanted a table with a little privacy and the number was 260 in case anyone is interested. It is on the right side as you enter and it is where the tables that have the bench sitting around the inner dining room. It mirrors the left side so either side would be good. They were set up as 2 tops or 4 tops but they are spaced enough so you can say hi to your next door neighbor but have your own conversation. This was perfect! The waiter we had was fun, quick and very friendly! This was the dining experience we wanted so we were so glad we went back. We also got our drinks quickly. Sorry but I am not remembering some of the names of the food we ate because I didn't take photos of the menus. We both got this as an appetizer and loved it Our meals we liked too We both liked our desserts and I was glad to finally try the Chocolate Melting cake!! We were there for the singing waiters again and I loved it! On our other cruises the ships didn't have them so for us it was new and fun to watch. Next on to the casino..... portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #116 Share Posted May 27, 2013 I have to say I just loved seeing families all dressed up and enjoying the dining room. Just my opinion but, when a family makes the effort to dress the kids and all eat together it is something I really like. I never saw anyone (kids) included not dressed appropriately. We then moved on to the casino to play video poker. We were not sitting there for 10 minutes and DH got a Royal Flush! Yup we won almost $3500.00!! We go to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and casino's around where we live and we have never won that much on video poker! We did win 1200 on our last cruise but this was even better. So there is a good start to our next vacation!! The rest of the night was a great night for us as you can imagine! We just went all over the ship and stopped in different bars and headed back to our balcony before calling it a night. I honestly don't know how anyone can't find something to do on this ship at night. We didn't have enough time to do all we wanted. Day 5 Curacao The ship didn’t dock until 2 so we had the morning to relax. We had breakfast burritos and went to the upper deck on Lido in the shade and just read and watched all the action at the pool. In the morning it is not as crowded as it gets later on when they have the pool games. So we would go to the pool either in the morning or later afternoon. The DJ and music at the pool was loud but that didn’t really bother us at all. As you can see DH is reading...wait...he is not reading unless he is reading with his eyes closed! Yes, he is sleeping!! So you can see all that music didn't keep him awake. And he was not the only one I saw falling asleep. There was a really nice older woman right beside me and she was sleeping too! Anyway it was to fun to see everyone enjoying themselves. We tried to eat lunch at Cucina Del Capitano and there was an hour to an hour and a half wait. There is too much good food on this ship to wait so we headed to Tandoor and had Indian Food. It was really good. We of course found plenty of seating right by Tandoor overlooking the ocean. We shared our table with several families and they enjoyed the food as much as we did. This salad was so good! Our meals If we had more time on the ship we would have returned there to eat. Time to go back to the room to get ready for Curacao. This is an island I have always wanted to see and it didn't disappoint.
portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #117 Share Posted May 27, 2013 In Curacao we went on the Irie bus tour. It was so much fun! For 20.00 each we toured the island and spent just over an hour swimming at Sapphire Beach at the sea aquarium. I really wish we had more time there. The tour took us to see all different kinds of different color houses a Jewish cemetery over the tallest bridge in the Caribbean which had beautiful views (that is another cruise ship in the photo) The liquor distillery was next and I used it as a bathroom stop. For those who are interested they were giving out little shots of all kinds of different flavors of Curacao liquor. People on the tour loved it! I think this stop was used by every tour and it was very crowded. We saw some beautiful views as we toured around We then went on to Sapphire beach. We were there for just an hour and I know the snorkeling was suppose to be good but we just didn't have enough time. In case anyone wants to know there was a reef and that is where you could snorkel. portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #118 Share Posted May 27, 2013 A couple of more photo's of Sapphire Beach Our driver/tour guide, Ariel and his “bartender” Eddie were great. They were very friendly and made the tour a lot of fun. There also was all the free beer, soda and bottles water you wanted. You just sat in your seat and Eddie woud serve you. We were all laughing and singing and and it was a great time. DH had the beer and I had the water. My only complaint was no diet Pepsi. Just kidding! Ariel who made the tour so much fun! There was some shopping stalls set right up beside the tour and they were not aggressive at all. The prices were cheap too!
CruisingSpara Posted May 27, 2013 #119 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Thanks for the great review! Keep it coming :D! portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #120 Share Posted May 27, 2013 The beautiful buildings over the bridge where there are many restaurants and shopping I should have posted these sooner but this is what you see as you get off the ship After you get off the ship there is a walk way that leads to an area called Rif Fort which has lots of shopping and restaurants. Then as you keep walking you will find the area where you can get a tour, outside shopping stalls and the bridge that leads you over to more shopping and restaurants. These stalls had clothing, jewelery, glasses, pocketbooks, etc

portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #123 Share Posted May 27, 2013 From the walkway looking at the ship From the ship looking at the walk way to town We were exhausted when we got back. But what a fantastic day. It was everything I hoped it would be. Friendly people, beautiful beaches, colorful buildings and the views everywhere. We decided to try room service because we were starving when we got back. I have read the pastrami was good and it was! And DH got the grilled cheese We sat on our balcony watching people come back to the ship and talking about how they probably had a great day just like us. We were exhausted but also excited because tomorrow was Aruba! And it more than lived up to what we wanted for a beach day! Ok our night didn't end there....yup DH went to Pizza Pirate and instead of us both going there he brought it back to the cabin and we watched sail a way from our balcony. Got to love the Lido deck!! portlandpete Posted May 27, 2013 Author #124 Share Posted May 27, 2013 What is all included in the spa pass? Included is heated loungers (2 areas that overlook the ocean), sauna, steam room, showers in spa area that are different scents and Thalassotherapy pool which I loved. Maybe someone else can add more but these are the things I used.
