Question for anyone who has sailed on RCCL's Radiance - Hawaii to Sydney

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can anyone who has sailed on the repositioning cruise on Radiance of the Seas from Hawaii back to Sydney let me know if the Australian no smoking inside policy was in effect, or was it still under the US rules where smoking is allowed in some areas indoors?

Thanks.

We did it in 2011 and Australian policy in place:)

Hi Avalon 2007... We have just been in the Radiance from Sydney to Hawaii, and there was definatly NO SMOKING inside, only on outside decks, and this was restricted, EG. deck 5 only on one side of the ship. As a non smoker, I appreciated this. By the way, the trip was fantastic, and we really enjoyed the sea days, and just being able to chill out. Great ship, lots to do, lots to see.

Have fun

Thanks for your reply. It's the return journey from the US we are doing so I was hoping they would change the smoking policy, but I know when they reposition from Singapore to Sydney they don't change it until the first cruise out of Sydney. :(

But seems others are saying it has been changed from Hawaii onward so I hope it's the case.

We are looking forward to being on Radiance again & yes those lots of sea days will be good to relax (although since we will be away for 6.5 weeks all up I will have to use some of those sea days to work- self employed web/graphic designer)

The Alaskan cruise being very port intensive should be not so bad for smoke exposure as we are not stuck inside the ship all the time is what I'm hoping.

I also hope due to the Hawaiian cruise being more about warmer weather that the smokers will be outside more than in as well. Fingers crossed. :)

We were on the Radiance Hawaii to Sydney in Sept 2012. As the above post and there was definately NO SMOKING inside, only on outside decks, and this was restricted.

The main smoking area was one corner of the outside pool deck.

Some people were smoking on balconys but unlike our trip on the Rhadsody the previous year this did not really bother us.

Hope you enjoy your trip. Both Hawaii and the Radiance is lovely.

We did get gale force seas between Tahiti and NZ one day. They emptied the pools and closed the outside deck for a day.

smoking is allowed on the balconies of RCL ships but they are cutting down the smoking areas

On our recent Sydney to Hawaii cruise there were remarkably few smokers but you sure did smell the smoke as you walked on starboard side pool deck to the Park Café. They were just in the corner near the big screen. The other location was the doorway leading to deck 5 starboard from the Centrum area.

Avalon007 - I would be very interested to hear about your experience with smokers both on the Alaskan leg and the Vancouver/Hawaii leg.

I was on Voyager Singapore to Freemantle last year, and was surprised they didn't change the smoking policy considering it was basically all Australians on board. Not only that, they even allowed it in the casino one night after announcing it was to be non smoking due to Formal night, as they 'forgot to put it in the cruise compass'.

I am on Rhapsody Honolulu to Sydney in September this year and am hoping they change to Australian smoking policy out of Honolulu, the same as what occurred on my Radiance Honolulu to Sydney cruise in 2011.

Smokers don't bother me much, but I do agree that a lot together in a confined space isn't great! I think most smokers try to avoid smoking around others wherever possible.

This year Fremantle to Singapore same cruise on VOS in reverse had restricted smoking as Aust ships so i thought the restrictions were only for the Australian season, once they arrive here?

When I did Radiance HNL-SYD it was just about all Aussies on board, and the word was that for that reason they decided they may as well change the policy on the way to Australia, as Australians were used to smoking outdoors anyway. Not a single Australian smoker complained about it as far as I heard (My partner smokes.) Although, it was Radiance's first trip to Australia so they may have just mixed up some message they received and changed it earlier than they were supposed to! I was surprised on VOS that they didn't change it on the way to Australia, I thought they would based on my Radiance experience.

On another note, I actually prefer that on RCI they allow smoking on balconies as I think it reduces the numbers grouping together in other smoking areas. I noticed on my recent cruise on Carnival Spirit that one whole side of the pool was so full up with smokers it stank, and it was the first time ever I couldn't actually sit in the vicinity of my other half when he was smoking. There was no oxygen!! (Well it seemed that way). Could just be there were more smokers on board, who knows.
