B2B questions

Here is the potential situation:

 

Wife and I cruising the Jewel one southern Caribbean route in a balcony room. Then, our adult daughter would meet us in San Juan for a second cruise, but we would change rooms to a suite.

 

Would we have to leave the ship, claim our luggage, and check back in again?

 

Any suggestions from those with experience?

You do have to leave the ship and go through customs.

 

However, you should not have to pack up your bags as if you were leaving the ship at the end of a cruise. You can leave everything that is on a hanger in the closet, and pack everything else. The stateroom attendant will move your bags and the hanging items to the new stateroom.

 

You should touch base with your stateroom attendants (both first and second cruise) and ask them how they handle the stateroom move.

And if they know nothing about B2B, let them know that they just have to get a trolley to put all the hanging stuff on. They are not all aware of that.

 

There is a meeting late in the first week for all B2B where they explain the process. They bring you off as the last group and you basically go in a circle - off the ship through customs and then right back on with new cards.

 

They usually try to have the B2B back on as the first group, but sometimes somebody gets eager and starts letting the suite guests on.

 

Just make sure you check with guest relations as some point during the first week to make sure they have you down as B2B - They kept leaving us off the list and although it worked out, there was a headache trying to get the cards for the 2nd week. The officer with the B2B group ended up going back on the ship to get our cards because whoever she was talking to didn't have a clue and you could see her frustration. She did a good job but us and one other cabin managed to fall through some crack.

We've done many consecutive cruises and it varies by ship and the Guest Administrations Officer. We've gotten our new cards the night before and we gotten them on turnaround morning. It depends on the port as to whether you are led off as a group or everything is handled on the ship. We've experienced both.

 

A meeting is only held if there is a large number of consecutive cruisers. If there is not, then a letter will be delivered to the cabin explaining the procedure for turnaround day.

 

There may also be special lunch on turnaround day in the MDR. This again, is dependent on the number of consecutive cruisers.
