Skagway/Dynea

The "Golden Staircase" is the toughest part of the multi-day Chilkoot Trail hike (very steep with huge boulders to navigate) - usually reached on the second or third day of the hike. Well worth seeing :)

This would be one of those "things to do when not on a cruise" items. The trail hike usually takes 3-5 days of heavy duty backpacking. In some places there is no real trail - just markers. The golden staircase is at the summit - about halfway between Dyea and Bennett. The trail can be walked either direction. Take a look here for more info http://www.nps.gov/klgo/planyourvisit/chilkoottrail.htm

BTW if you take the train to Bennett you can hike a few hundred feet down the Chilkoot trail and back - then you can say you hiked the end of the Chilkoot Trail :)
