Tall-Cruiser Posted September 7, 2013 #252 Share Posted September 7, 2013 Just felt like posting this because I thought this was a great idea. http://m.vuykgron.nl/projects/meyer-werft-towing-pontoon-and-push-box/45 I had never seen it used before until Norwegian Breakaway and it seemed like a great idea. Looks almost like the notch section of an ATB were the tug fits into the Barge. Thanks for sharing the link.
Lloyd555 Posted September 12, 2013 #253 Share Posted September 12, 2013 (edited) I am not sure how I found this site (one glass of red wine and my mind turns to mush), but this site may belong to an official photographer for Meyer Werft? There are photos of the keel laying ceremony and work being done installing the engines. I sure hope there are more photos to come of the Quantum of the Sea's construction. Wonder why photos are available on the site (link below) before Meyer Werft or RCI would show them. Shhhhh...let's keep it our secret! Don't want the photos removed! Here are a sample of some of the 196 photos (including the Anthem's steel cutting): Darn it. The Quantum and Anthem photos have been pulled from the site. Just temporary maybe? On the bright side, I found a few short items from June mentioning that the metal and engineering company Antti-Teollisuus Oy from Salo, Southwest Finland had signed a delivery agreement of over 3500 pieces, B-15 passenger and crew cabin doors for the Quantum of the Seas. http://www.antti-teollisuus.fi/news/58/243/Delivery-agreement-of-B-15-doors-to-the-newbuilding-S697-Quantum-of-the-Seas.html http://www.goodnewsfinland.com/archive/news/salo-based-company-to-provide-american-cruise-ship-with-doors/ Edited September 12, 2013 by Lloyd555
Tall-Cruiser Posted September 13, 2013 #254 Share Posted September 13, 2013 Wow! They must have just pulled them in the last day or so as I thought they were there yesterday. So back to the still webcam for now I guess.
Mass2Cruise Posted September 13, 2013 #255 Share Posted September 13, 2013 That's funny cause I just popped over here to say the photos were gone from the photographer's site too. What is strange to me is that they don't have at least the photos from the keel laying on there. Those were even public via Royal the day it happened. Not anything they hadn't already showed us. I'm hoping the photographer just redid the site and dropped the Q link by accident.

Kesstral Posted September 14, 2013 #258 Share Posted September 14, 2013 (edited) The only possible variation is RCI is playing games and the Exausts are in the area marked ELEV. , and the Lifts are the six rounded squares. My best guess is that the rounded squares are the elevator cabs and the ELEV is the elevator mechanical. I looked at some other deck plans that had a similar "rounded squares" and ELEV boxes. The only other Royal ship I've been on so far was Rhapsody and it has 2 glass elevators that rise up along the Centrum. Since I know those elevators were not where the ELEV boxes are I think it would be the same on Quantum :) Edit: Correction. Those ELEV boxes on Rhapsody might have been an entire other bank of elevators. I can't remember and don't have any good pictures of that area. Time to book another cruise! Allure/Oasis seem to have a similar elevator area (with the rounded squares and ELEV boxes) that the Quantum has. Anyone recall what that area looked like from those ships? Lloyd555 Posted September 20, 2013 #264 Share Posted September 20, 2013 Nothing much happening with the Quantum of the Seas at Meyer Werft. Well, nothing significant that we can see!!!
Tough as Leather Posted September 20, 2013 #265 Share Posted September 20, 2013 (edited) This company supplies parts for Meyer Werft. http://juk-alkon.com/en/news.htm If so, there may be some Quantum of the Seas pieces. Or not. Just biding my time until the next big reveal or the float out of NCL Getaway. Whichever comes first. Edited September 20, 2013 by Tough as Leather Edit: The company DOES supply parts. 800 ton blocks, as a matter of fact. Use CTRL-F to find some Meyer Werft references.

Tall-Cruiser Posted September 24, 2013 #268 Share Posted September 24, 2013 As usual, nice find Lloyd. If it wasn't for most of the pictures you found and posted here, things would be rather boring and slow coming on Quantum news. Thanks for sharing. If it wasn't for most of the pictures you found and posted here, things would be rather boring and slow coming on Quantum news. Thanks for sharing. Any time! We really need an update, either construction-wise or feature-wise for the QoS! Getting bored. Thank goodness the video game GTA V came out, or I'd have nothing to do!! ;) Lloyd (another tall cruiser at 6'3")
Lloyd555 Posted September 30, 2013 #270 Share Posted September 30, 2013 (edited) Some more tourist photos (taken September 28th). Sigh. Tall-Cruiser Posted September 30, 2013 #271 Share Posted September 30, 2013 I really hope the balconies are nothing like those on Breakaway looking at the second picture and what appears to be the support rails. Thanks for sharing Lloyd.
Lloyd555 Posted October 5, 2013 #272 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Mobinar news page has a short blurb about inviting Meyer Werft to check out their work on the FlowRider steel frame for the Quantum of the Seas: http://www.mobimar.com/news-flowrider_fat_accepted Mobinar designed and made the frames so that the FlowRider (by Wave Loch) is cruise vessel compatible. If you look through the website you'll see that they do other projects for RCI, such as some of their climbing walls.

Lloyd555 Posted October 6, 2013 #275 Share Posted October 6, 2013 (edited) Also found a rendering of the new cruise terminal at Cape Liberty at http://www.panynj.gov/about/gtr/gtr_082013.html. Maybe we can follow its construction, if not the Quantum of the Seas'. :o Edited October 6, 2013 by Lloyd555
