ourlol Posted June 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2005 For those of you staying in London I've just seen details for an evening event being held at the Tower of London between 6 - 16th July. Quoting from the Festival of Music website it says- For the first time ever, Her Majesty's Palace and Fortress The Tower of London, will host a prestigious music festival. Taking place in The Moat of London's landmark heritage site, this exciting festival of opera and jazz will run during the first two weeks of July 2005 and will feature five nights of Grand Opera and six nights of exceptional Jazz. Ticket Prices range from £35 - £75. If you like Jazz or Opera, the setting alone might make it worth considering. Laura
ourlol Posted June 22, 2005 Author #2 Share Posted June 22, 2005 Just noticed this too:- "During the interval the audience will be aware of the historic Ceremony of the Keys. This is the traditional locking up of the Tower of London by night. It is one of the oldest and most colourful ceremonies of its kind, having taken place for the last 700 years in much the same form as it is seen today. Every night the Tower is locked up by the Chief Warder who makes his way to the gates from the Byward Tower at exactly 21:53. Once all the Tower gates are locked, the last post is sounded by a trumpeter and the ceremony is concluded"
Globaliser Posted July 7, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2005 Ticket Prices range from £35 - £75.For this reason, we looked at this (as locals) and decided that the event was a total ripoff. There is much better entertainment value to be had in London, both for opera and jazz. The opera is a relatively obscure piece, too.
