Steakhouse

Recommended Posts

Although our next cruise is not picked out yet, I'm considering trying the steakhouse. Was going to surprise the hubby on our cruise in 2010 with reservations there but that cruise didn't turn out so good since it was the Splendor fire of 2010. My question is....can you order as much as you want off the steakhouse menu like you can in the MDR???

For $35 you get an app,an entree and dessert, I didn't want salad so I got 2 apps, the portions are bigger than the MDR, so by the time I was done I was stuffed, I read that you could get another entree for an additional charge.

I've heard different prices from $20-$25 but not sure, you can always ask while you are there, oh I think I missed you get salad also.

Ate in the steakhouse twice on the Sunshine May 26 cruise. The steaks range from a 9 ounce filet to an 18 ounce ribeye plus the sides, appetizers, soups and deserts. You can order extra sides and apps without additional charge. The entries would be extra. As with the other poster I was stuffed both times I was there.

You won't want more than 1 order. The amount of food is enough for 3 people.

Yes, you can use your OBC. You can book before you board or after. We already have reservations on both formal nights on our cruise next month. Formal nighs are more busy than other nights. Its totally worth the up charge...You really should try it at least once.

I actually didn't consider that there might be a different policy than in the MDR when wife and I dined on the Magic's steakhouse last week. I ordered at least two appetizers and possibly three. Waitress never mentioned a problem, and everything we ordered arrived and was quite good. All the servers were very professional and as attentive as I'd expect in any top-notch restaurant on land.

I believe it was $35 per person, and was just a line item on the end-of-cruise statement.

The wine steward seemed like a nice guy but my wife almost made me exhale lobster through my nose when he made another pass by the table, prompting my wife to ask "what's with Mister Clanky Cup?"

They let you book before the trip and deducted it out of your OBC balance?

They wouldn't let me do that but with CCL the only thing that is consistent is their inconsistency.

No, you make your reservations before you board, which you can do via John Heald or CCL website, but it comes off of your OBC at the end of your meal when you sign for it. Just another line item off your portfolio. Same as using your OBC in the casino, bars or shops.....

Portions in the steak house are HUGE. Unlike the MDR where you eat more then a few portions of each setting.

BUT if you want more-- they will be more then happy to bring you another entree---for the 35.00 fee of course

Whenever I made steakhouse reservations before I boarded I seem to remember it being charged to my credit card.

It's been a few years since I have been on CCL so perhaps I mixed it up with another cruise line.

Thank you for the reply.:)

Passengers contact John for Chef's Table reservations (which didn't work for me either time I tried it). Steakhouse reservations are made on the Carnival web site or by contacting the steakhouse directly. Personally, I've never heard that he also handles steakhouse reservations--he'd be able to do little else! LOL.

Bill, you simply make the reservation ahead of time and pay for it after you dine--that's how it comes out of your OBC.

We just did this last month. I made 2 reservations for the Steakhouse on the Freedom one for the Magic and you do not have to pay in advance. They present the bill after you dine and it goes on your sail and sign, so you can use any OBC you have to pay for it.

For reservations made in advance they call the cabin (for first night) or send a card reminding you of the time and reiterating the dress code, which is adhered to even on the first night. If you board in shorts you might want to pack a change of clothes in your carry-on if dining in the steakhouse first night.

Royal Caribbean requires that you pay for the alternative dining when you make the reservations.

The steakhouse is terrific! Just a little hint...ask for either one or both of your desserts to go as you'll be stuffed! They'll give you a nice lidded plate and a few sets of silverware. We take out all of the drinks from our fridge to fit in the plates. Sometimes we have gotten the chocolate sampler for there (as it's different ice creams) and taken the cheesecake for a later time back to our room.

I've decided to do 2 nights in the steakhouse this time, that way I can have the lobster tails one night and the lobster ravioli on the second night, my granddaughter will be excited that she will get to eat there twice, she loved it when we did it last year.

We are thinking of going to the steak house for our cruise in August. We will be traveling with our 3 boys, 18, 14 & 12 & wanted to take them along. Sounds like the portions are too large for the kids. Are the kids able to eat for a reduced price? Any accomodations for children?
