Guaranteed Room??

Thank you to everyone that has posted much needed info. Hubby and I took our first cruise last year on Royal Caribbean, a 3 day, to see if we would like it. We are now booked on the Holiday for the Oct. 24th cruise. We were given a room number by carnival, on the upper deck (got an upgrade from the riviera deck .):) Just wondering, is this what is called a guranteed room?? Don't really understand what a guaranteed room is exactly. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Usually with a "guaranteed" room you get whatever is left at the point they assign cabins. I've done this many times and I think only once did I not end up in a higher category than I booked. You generally don't find out your cabin # until you check in.
