Black sand beaches in FP?

I am a sucker for black sand beaches...I have read posts about these "beaches" in FP...

 

Do they compare to the ones in Hawaii?

 

Please provide me with locations, suggestions...

 

I will be on the TP/Cook in August.......

 

Do I need to rent a car or can a taxi take us...I just want a short look/walk...

I have not been to the ones in Hawaii. However there was a beautiful black sand beach at the Radisson Hotel in Tahiti. I'm sure a taxi can take you there. As far as I know, there are no black sand beaches on the other islands, as those beaches are made of coral sand, not volcanic basalt.
