adira Posted June 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2013 I am leaving in FIVE days!!! Wahoo!! In Grand Cayman, I really want to do some snorkeling, but I don't want to do an excursion. After some research, it sounds like Sunset House might just fit what I am looking for: I can rent the equipment on site, snorkel from the beach, and get a bite to eat or a drink if I so desire. So, my big question is, how far away is it from the port? My other question is, if you have gone there, what is your opinion?
curacaoqueen Posted June 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2013 Sunset House is maybe a mile, very walkable, we stayed there and walked to Georgetown a couple times a day. Snorkling is nice there, My Bar has good drinks too.
Capt_BJ Posted June 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2013 dd and I are recently back from (another) week long stay. I've been going here since the mid 80's. all suited up and ready to drop in for a night shore dive at Sunset House I saw a basket star THIS big lunching at My Bar Many will tell you that you can get as good snorkeling closer - at Eden Rock and that IS true. There is also a dive shop there for rentals and Paradise rest & bar is right there for food & drink. During our recent stay at Sunset we dove Eden Rock too . . . IMO the advantage of Sunset, and the reason I ALWAYS head there on a cruise ship visit is: that ONE mile (less) keeps 99% of the cruise crowd away. So no crowds . . . on a heavy load cruise ship day you can walk on the backs of the snorkelers at Eden and not get your feet wet!
