alscottg Posted June 25, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2005 My husband and I are leaving on the Explorer on 7/3. We would like to bring wine with us to enjoy on our balcony before dinner. Has anyone brought wine on the ship? Also, we were thinking of using an outside company and sending ourselves wine (like a bon voyage gift) so we do not have to bring it. Has anyone done this before and what company have you used? Thanks for the help!
cruisin from florida Posted June 25, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2005 We just did the Explorer on 6/12. We took 4 bottles of wine. I packed it in our luggage. Used lots of bubble wrap and then wrapped in towels and then a garbage bag in case there was breakage. We drank two bottles in our cabin, and took two bottles to the dining room. We were charged 1 corkage fee of $12. We also got the 5 bottle gold wine & dine package. It was an ok deal, since we like reds and there were more reds to choose from. Nothing special, but the wines were drinkable. We ended up taking our two bottles to the dining room the last night. DH thinks that we wouldn't have been charged a corkage fee at all if we had just taken 1 bottle. Last time we went (2 years ago) we weren't charged the corkage fee in the dining room or Portofinos. cruztime Posted June 25, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 25, 2005 We were on Navigator 5/28 and brought the wine with us as well. There is no problem at all if you pack it in your checked luggage. As the previous poster stated we used bubble wrap and plactic bags and just stuck it in the center of other clothes so it was well padded. This is the 6th time we have done it with no problems. The only drawback is to watch the weight of the luggage. Spread them around so they don't add too much weight to any one piece. We did a bon voyage package from a company called Just for You once, but it is pretty pricey. Better just to bring it from home. Have a great cruise

sleeples23 Posted June 25, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 25, 2005 How about the corkscrew and glasses? Bring your own or does the room steward set up a bar service in the room? Is there a fee for that?
cruisin from florida Posted June 25, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 25, 2005 We brought our own small corkscrew. We just used the water glasses provided, although I have heard that the steward will bring glasses upon request.
