Travel Girl TX Posted June 27, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 27, 2013 We were fortunate to overnight in DaNang so we did Hue one day and Hoi An the next. I would do Hoi An as it is a lovely village with so much to see and enjoy strolling around. Hue was interesting, but Hoi An was memorable.
Travel2Learn Posted June 27, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 27, 2013 Definitely Hoi An instead of Hue! For visuals, go to dogpile.com, select images, and then look at photos for each place.
Bewer Posted June 27, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted June 27, 2013 Thanks everyone. Looks like Hoi An gets the vote.
Rare John Bull Posted June 29, 2013 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2013 Chan May is closer to Hue, takes about an hour. Will take you about the same time in the opposite direction to get to Da Nang, then a further 30 to 40 mins to Hoi An. Despite this, unless your ship is in port for only half a day, I too would recommend Hoi An. If you're fixing a private tour, or negotiating with the taxis at the port, you can build-in China beach & Marble Mountain (google them) between Da Nang & Hoi An. Marble Mountain particularly is very interesting with a pagoda, temple & cave-temple, and super views over China beach. Quite steep steps up Marble Mountain, but not very far. Or if you don't fancy the climb, there's a road of marble-sculpting workshops at the bottom. JB :)
JoAnneV Posted July 1, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 1, 2013 There is an elevator at Marble Mountain. I'm not sure how much it costs. It was included with our tour.

Would welcome any opinions/views on which to take. Thanks I've been to both places and if you want sightseeing then you go to Hue for the perfume river, the Citadel etc...However, if you want sightseeing plus tailor made suits then definitely Hoi An. I got two tailor made suits for $ 70 each in 3 hours http://www.yalycouture.com/index.php?lang=en.

We're The Groupnors Posted July 23, 2013 #12 Share Posted July 23, 2013 Loved Hoi An. We just did the ship transfer there and back and explored on our own, which was very easy. Great shopping, and we had a fantastic lunch with very attentive service at White Sail Cafe.
