Steve H Posted June 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2013 When booking a cruise through the cruiseline and the price drops, do you usually get a cheaper price or a onboard credit. We are looking at a TA in April and are thinking of waiting and hoping for a price drop closer to the sailing date. Thanks.
Gig103 Posted June 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2013 Prior to final payment, they lower your payment due. Check with your TA also because some charge a fee if you are taking advantage of price drops. After final payment, you cannot get price adjustments (unlike some of Carnival's rates), but if you see a more expensive cabin you can pay the difference to upgrade to it. BEAV Posted June 26, 2013 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2013 If you find a price drop before the penalty date kicks in (usually 75 days prior to sailing), you can usually get the rate adjusted and lower your final payment amount. Or you can upgrade to a higher category for a lesser price than before the price drop if there's a category you see that you're interested in. A price drop in the category you're booked in isn't automatically going to trigger a repricing of your reservation. You have to be the one to call and bring it to their attention. Spring Transatlantics are generally very good value and there are often price reductions closer to sailing. If you're looking to sail in a balcony cabin, for example, one strategy is to initially book the lowest category. It's quite possible that later on down the road you can upgrade to Concierge or Aqua class for very little extra, if any. Just a thought.... Good luck..
