Perks from owning Carnival stock?

Would you mind explaining how one receives AmEx shipboard credit? I am new to the Cruise Critic & forums.

Thanks, Margi

Hi Margi,

The Amex credit is for Platinum Cards only. Your TA must get some sort of number from Amex to apply it to your booking. Of course the cruise must be paid for using the Plat card.

I read about the shipboard credit for CCL stockholders and bought 100 shares. When I called my travel agent she told me that because I had booked as part of a group that the credit might not be applicable to me. During my next call to her, she told me that when the arrangements were "finalized" we would address the onboard credit issue. I then called HAL customer service and was told that they "legally" couldn't give me any information because I had booked through a travel agent and all my information had to come through her. My last effort was to send HAL an email regarding this matter. I'm currently waiting a reply. Has anyone else encountered any of this confusion?

Best purchase I ever made and getting better also - what a great perk? Not only does it encourage folks to cruise by offering a shipboard credit and thereby filling ships, it also encourages folks to buy stock and therefore to drive up the share price..clever..!!

This is from the stockholders annual report.

"The benefit is available to shareholders holding a minimum of 100 shares of Carnival corporation or Carnival pic. Employees, travel agents cruising at travel agent rates, tour conductors or anyone cruising on a reduced-rate or complimentary basis are excluded from this offer. The benefit is not transferable, not combinanble with any other shipboard offer and cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratutuies charged to your onboard account."

Let me clarify a couple of things.

Everyone cruises on a reduced-rate. Only once was I denied the credit because the rate was incredibly low. It was so low I did not have a problem with it being denied. It was a last minute booking. I think there was 1 other person on this board that was denied the credit.

I did receive the credit cruising on a group rate a couple of years ago.

Some have managed to combine credits, like a promo and the stock. I have always been turned down trying to combine credits.

The stock credit is credited to your onboard account. I have read where some have used it for gratuities.

Hal will not deal with an individual when that person has booked through a TA but you might try faxing the information to Hal.

Please provide your name, reservation number, ship and sailing date along with proof of ownership of Carnival Corp shares. (ie =photocopy of shareholder proxy card, shares certificate or current brokerage or nominee statement) and the initial deposit to your travel agent or to the cruse line you have selected.

Does someone have a phone number or an email address where I can send proof of ownership for shipboard credit on our cruise?

Thanks,

Nancy

This is the number I have used to fax in my letter. ph 206-298-3059

I just faxed a letter to HAL a few weeks ago for our October cruise on the Oosterdam because I am not using a normal TA, it is an On-line agency I called them to see if they had recieved confirmation. They themselves had not recieved confirmation of the credit so they called HAL while they had me on hold. After about 5 minutes they came back on line and said yes HAL had it and Yes we were getting the credit. So I guess I will have definite confirmation when we get our Docs in about 4 to 5 weeks.

This is incorrect. Carnival Corporation does not have a record of their shareholders, unless you own the stock in certificate form. Most people hold the stock through a brokerage account, and it is held in street name by the broker. All Carnival knows is that the broker holds so many shares in total for its clients.

Are you saying that you must own the stock certificate or will a brokerage statement suffice to get the credit?

I believe you shouldn't buy any stock unless you feal its a good investment. If the stock drops 20 points, its going to take a lot of cruises to make up the difference in credits. Having said that, I believe CCL is a sound holding but I would be hesitant buying now with high fuel prices eating into its earnings.

Any thoughts?

The contact info for each of the 12 lines owned by Carnival are on page 7 (of the online version) of the Annual Report.

The details are set out on page 7 of the Annual Report. Basically, 100 credit for a 7 day cruise, more for longer cruises, less for shorter ones. Applies to all of the Carnival products.

Annual Report - http://media.corporate-ir.net/media...eports/04AR.pdf

I faxed my request for a credit with Princess and provided my email address for them to send a confirmation. I had a confimation email within a couple of hours. I have also used postal mail with HAL and had no problem getting the credit.

I am not Bruce but a Brokerage Statement will work just fine. I do all my stock on line so I print off my last statement and even the print of the current days pricing so they can see I have not sold it.

Actually with the CCL stock being down in the last few days I have actually thought about purchasing more. I currently have 115 shares, I think in the long run it is a good investment.

You are more than welcome Kathy, our October cruise was also booked with an on line agency.(my local TA could not come close to the price) I have not received our docs yet but when I called them they called HAL and confirmed we had the stock credit. My local TA who I usually use always called me when she get the confirmation of the stock credit.

I am glad I could help:)

I called yesterday to verify that they had received my information that I had faxed... I was told the same thing. Because I used a TA (online agency...), she couldn't tell me anything, but assured "it had been taken care of", when I persisted! :o Now, that MAY mean she deleted everything related to me, since I continued to inquire... ;)

Thanks Laffnvegas. How did you get the number for the fax? Did you ever talk with anyone at HAL or do you have to contact Carnival? Our cruise is in Oct to Montreal to Norfolk.

crazy4cruisn, I have received the stock credit 4 times now and have never spoke with anyone. My TA gave me the fax number last year and I just fax it to them with a short cover letter telling them my cruise date, booking number and cabin number. It is really quite easy.

We were worried because our stock is CUK not CCL. We originally had Princess Cruise Line stock and when Carnival took over they transfered our shares to CUK. However, we faxed the cover letter per Lisa/LAFFNVEGAS's instructions along with a copy of the brokerage statement and the $100 credit voucher (for a 7 day cruise)was included in our documents which we just rec'd.........

We just arranged a cruise through a HAL consultant and were told to fax information directly to Reservations Administration department, Fax 206-298-3059.

Include:

1. Copy of proof of ownership of at least 100 Carnival shares (proxy card, shares certificate, brokerage or nominee statement).

2. Names, ship, sailing date, confirmation number.f

This is for when you are arranging cruise without travel agent.
