mitcho Posted July 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2013 Does anybody know how easy it is or what is the best way to visit the French side of St Maarten? We went to the Caribbean last year on Ventura and tended to explore most of the islands independently by taxi as this suits us better. We're going again this year and would like to visit the French side, again independently if that's an option. Any advice would be gratefully received. marylizcat Posted July 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2013 We toured with Bernard's Tours in St Maarten, which was an excellent day out. Found him from recommendations on the Ports of Call part of Cruise Critic. Just google him. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
Cristaltips Posted July 2, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 2, 2013 Definately do a trip with Bernard's tours. We fed iguanas, saw the sea urchin man, went to the beach and watched the planes come in over the beach to the airport. Brilliant day, can't recommend highly enough
marylizcat Posted July 2, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 2, 2013 Yes, the iguanas are my best memory! Incidentally, you do get to visit the French side. There is a stop in Marigot and the beach stop is at Orient Beach. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
sueandphil Posted July 2, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 2, 2013 Have to agree, Bernards Tours are very good, well worth the money. When you visit Orient Beach you might want to avert your eyes to the left;)
mitcho Posted July 3, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted July 3, 2013 Thanks for the advice. Sounds like it could be Bernard's then.

sueandphil Posted July 4, 2013 #8 Share Posted July 4, 2013 Yes you might come across Calvin the Donkey Man, local tourist attraction :p
marylizcat Posted July 4, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 4, 2013 Have to say we saw nothing untoward! They said the nudist area was to the right as you face the sea, so we walked left. Saw a couple of topless females, but that was all. Of course the Americans get very het up about the toplessness, because they don't have it like we do on European beaches. Since this part of St Maarten is French, they behave as on French beaches. Nothing to get alarmed about... ParCan Posted July 4, 2013 #10 Share Posted July 4, 2013 The lowest cost way to get around St Maartan is to get on a Bus. About $3 will take you anywhere. You can spot them easily cos they have Bus on the number plate. Just wave one down, they stop anywhere and also go anywhere.
