Advantages of Codesharing

Been looking at flights for my first trip to Europe in 2014 and

when reseaching flights, found flights that matched my preferences for

flight times, layover times, stop etc but found they are listed under two

different carriers: Delta & KLM. Know its due to codesharing but got me wondering given the costs are the same what advantages if any would there be to making reservations with Delta vs KLM or vice versa?

If the price is the same, the usual issue has to do with frequent flyer mileage earning. Sometimes you'll have a harder time with seat selection if it's the non-operating carrier, things like that.
