Cardiff Owl Posted July 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2013 This will be our 1st ever cruise - looking at drinks packages and while I like a cold beer or 6 / 10 p day on holiday what I don't know is drink prices to know if a package is worth considering. In the day we will be doing port excursions so really only the cooler on return to ship and evenings to drink. Any info on drink prices appreciated. Rare Scrapnana Posted July 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 11, 2013 Welcome to Cruise Critic! There is always some discussion on the drinks packages over on the Celebrity board. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28 I know Celebrity does a variety of different packages ( soft drinks, alcohol and combination). Basically if you are going to have 6 or more alcoholic drinks or 9 or more beers per day, then you are better with the classic package. If you like specific brands you might want to investigate the premium package. http://www.celebritycruises.com/planAndBook/tabLanding.do?pagename=onboard_beverage_packages#onboard_beverage_packages_premium_classic_tab/onboard/asrPanel.do%3Fpagename=onboard_beverage_packages_premium_classic&ComponentTypeId=30&categoryId=¤cyCode=USD You also might want to join your roll call and "meet" some of the people who will be on your cruise. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1616439 Enjoy your first cruise! Cardiff Owl Posted July 11, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted July 11, 2013 Thanks for the info. Will read and check the roll call (whatever that means ? ) & write further. Cheers Sent from my GT-I9100 using Forums mobile app
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 11, 2013 Welcome to Cruise Critic. Remember to check the rules about each person over 21 staying in the same cabin having to buy the drink package. It can get tricky. If you are going to eat and drink a lot in the ports -- it may not be worth it to you.
Rare Scrapnana Posted July 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 11, 2013 Thanks for the info. Will read and check the roll call (whatever that means ? ) & write further. Cheers Sent from my GT-I9100 using Forums mobile app The roll call is a place for Cruise Critic members to chat about the cruise that they will be on. Many roll calls plan a meet and greet once they are onboard so everyone can meet in person (there is no requirement that you attend). On some roll calls people set up private excursions (not ones offered by the cruise line) in the various ports. Enjoy!

Having returned from our Cruise on which we had the Classic Alco Package, in the end we found it was worthwhile from the perspective of value & convenience. 1. Morning of port of call or day at sea, always get a 70 cl bottle of chilled still water. 2. Afternoon on return to ship a couple of beers (2 or 3) to unwind and get some sun. (My wife would enjoy a couple of frozen cocktails from the Mast Bar) 3. Pre-dinner drinks ( 2 or 3) glasses of wine each, taking 1 to dinner in the MDR. 4. After dinner dry martini(s) 2 especially on formal nights (James Bond !!!) 5. Theatre / Casino drinks (3 or 4) glasses of Jack & Coke. So thats 10 drinks - given that most nights we finished our evening at 1am it not binge drinking & we probably enjoyed ourselves a few extras on days at sea. We took 2 bottles on board (1 champagne & 1 white wine) but only drank the champagne on our balcony to celebrate my retirement. When I asked for a ice bucket for the champagne it was provided within 15 minutes without any questions along with 2 champagne flutes.
