spaceguy Posted June 28, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2005 We are on a Mexican Riviera, Panama Canal, repositioning cruise starting 14 Sep on the Sun Princess. We will stop at the following ports: SEP 17 CABO SAN LUCAS 8-4:30 Sep 19 ACAPULCO 8-4:30 Sep 20 HUATULCO 8-12:30 Sep 22 PUNTARENAS, Costa Rica, 7-6:30 Sep 24 PANAMA CANAL Sep 24 CRISTOBAL 4-7:30 We have been on several cruises to the Caribbean and usually try to book tours/shore excursions on our own and have been fortunate. We are not swimmer or divers and tend not to want those kind of tours. We have not been on the Mexican Riviera before. What suggestions do the CC members have for shore tours at these ports? Thanks for the help!!!
Krazy Kruizers Posted June 28, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2005 Have done full transits of the canal several times - in both directions - you'll love it. Cabo - Land's End Acapulco - cliff divers Huatulco - La Cresita (?) Puntarenas - a drive through the country side. Have never been to Cristobal. llund Posted June 30, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2005 Cristobel is the port. Princess does not allow anyone to leave the port unless you are on one of their excursions. The port has a large shopping area for the cruise ships. There is major security there and it isn't safe to walk out of the port. We were on the Coral Princess which went to Gatun Lake in the Canal. We did the Ocean to Ocean excursion to see the rest of the canal. Then, the bus drove us back to the Cristobel to meet the ship. There was a line up of buses dropping passengers off. We were not allowed to get off the bus until we reached the opening to the shopping center. In Cristobel, you can either shop at the port or plan an excursion through the ship. MrsBoo Posted July 1, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2005 We're doing a similar itinerary in mid-October. In Puntarenas we're going to try to be brave enough to do zip-lining (also called canopy tour). Check out www.costa-rica-puntarenas.com. Also look at the Costa Rica (sometimes it's hard to differentiate info for Puntarenas & Limon) and Panama Canal forums if you haven't already done so:)
