Lava Tubes on Tahiti

Anyone ever explore the lava tubes on Tahiti? We are travelling on Sept 1, 2005 and want to visit these natural wonders. Are there guided excursions to the tubes or would it be possible to rent a 4x4 and explore on our own?

 

Any advice would be welcomed.

Just an update.

 

We are still exploring how to do this tour. So far, I have been unable to find anyone who goes there. I will continue to check but have cancelled with Patrick. He definitely does not include the "tubes" in any of his tours.

 

If I can't find a tour before we arrive, I will continue to look after we get there. We have arranged for transportation from the airport to our hotel and maybe this transport company can provide some assistance.
