tenpintap Posted July 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2013 Just got a call for an upgrade to a BD cabin with an "enclosed balcony". Don't know what an "enclosed balcony" is. Does anyone have an answer. Thanks in advance.
bakerintn Posted July 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 26, 2013 These balcony cabins are forward where there is likely to be more wave action. So...the balconies, otherwise here called "hull balconies", have a small ring of the steel hull around the opening. here is a picture of the forward part of the Jewel and you can see that the forward balconies have a small opening than those further back..the other picture is a view from inside the cabin looking out that shows the surrounding but still a good view, railing and clear partition under the railing. Ilovesailing Posted July 26, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 26, 2013 Just got a call for an upgrade to a BD cabin with an "enclosed balcony". Don't know what an "enclosed balcony" is. Does anyone have an answer. Thanks in advance. It has a cut out and most are located forward ship. Some folks like them because you have more shade or coverage from the sun. emcelh Posted July 27, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 27, 2013 We had one once too and liked it. It was very private and we didn't feel much motion either. I'd go for it.

Starry Eyes Posted July 27, 2013 #7 Share Posted July 27, 2013 We sailed in one. I was a bit concerned, but it was fine. n fact, DH liked it better than other balconies (shadier, more sheltered and more private).
tenpintap Posted July 27, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted July 27, 2013 Thanks everyone. It looks good. We're excited. We've been in other balconies, a little bit different but I'm sure we'll like it. Again Thanks.
UnObstructedView Posted July 27, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 27, 2013 Please pardon my bluntness. But, how much more did the 'upsell' cost? And, was it Norwegian that called? Or was it a travel agent. Just curious (and hoping for a similar call in December)!
tenpintap Posted July 27, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted July 27, 2013 Don't worry about asking. The upsale to the BD enclosed balcony was from an inside cabin. We're taking our niece and nephew on the cruise and we thought they would enjoy the balcony views, so we sprung for the additional $370.00. The call was from Norweigan. Hope this helps. Starry Eyes Posted July 27, 2013 #11 Share Posted July 27, 2013 That sounds like a good deal, especially for four of you. When Is your cruise?
tenpintap Posted July 27, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted July 27, 2013 Hey Starry Eyes. We leave Seattle on August 3 for a week in the "last frontier". The last time we went (June 2011) we scored an upgrade to a suite, that was sweet. I guess we're just lucky !!!

The last time we went (June 2011) we scored an upgrade to a suite, that was sweet. I guess we're just lucky !!! That is fabulous. Alaska is amazing; your niece and nephew are fortunate to sail with you in a balcony cabin. have a great time. I'm hoping for my first NCL upgrade/upsell call. We sail on Breakaway on August 18. balconies are still available, but the price is a bit out of reach right now. Maybe some of your luck will rub off on me:D
sdmike Posted July 27, 2013 #14 Share Posted July 27, 2013 Clearly the right choice for an Alaska cruise! The views are breathtaking, and the hull balcony will provide more protection from the elements (wind, rain) you might face. Great deal and choice! Warm Breezes Posted July 27, 2013 #15 Share Posted July 27, 2013 Thanks for the pics everyone. We have this type of room on our October cruise on the Jewel. Nice to know what to expect.

That's a fantastic bargain. We're also low-fare-chasing inside cabin dwellers, but just $370 extra for a balcony might have convinced us to move just like you! What a memorable trip you're about to take! Enjoy.
