smeyer418 Posted August 5, 2013 #26 Share Posted August 5, 2013 I was thinking about doing this. What type did you take? I'm assuming it was not a problem taking them on the bus. It was a small regular beach chair that had a carrying strap. I think it was $5 to buy it. The chairs at Horseshoe are either also regular beach chairs(not lounge chairs) or sand chairs(very low in the sand). I had no trouble with it on the bus. Sometimes the regular chairs at horse shoe are sold out as are the sand chairs too. I have on occasion exchanged money(and receipt) with people returning them so they don't have to wait in line to get their deposits back.
Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted August 5, 2013 #27 Share Posted August 5, 2013 You can wear them off and as your sitting taking them off and stand them up between your knee's and the seat in front of you. It really wasn't a big deal. We actually thought we were really clever for bringing the chairs. Turns out about half the people on the bus had the same idea:D We were in Bermuda last October. We did not see half the bus with chairs--but, there were several people that had them. They could move away from the crowds. We rented ours and decided to stay nearer the entrance so we did not have to carry them very far.

Sandy1975 Posted August 6, 2013 #29 Share Posted August 6, 2013 I'm wondering where you would keep 2 beach chairs and umbrellas in your cabin? Most cabins don't have a lot of extra space. We took chais to HSB when we were there in June. Our chairs had a built in umbrella that was not good! Haha. It is doable. We are going in October again and this time we are bringing chairs and an umbrella. The chairs you can carry as back packs and are pretty compact and the umbrella is not too big and easy to carry. Sandy1975 Posted August 6, 2013 #30 Share Posted August 6, 2013 You will not be able to get on a bus in Bermuda with them. That may work in other ports, but it will not work in Bermuda. You will have to take a cab both ways. Bermuda buses do not even allow strollers. In the summer they can be packed like NYC subways....standing in between the seats. Yes you can get in the bus with them. The ones that are portable and you can put on your shoulders are easy to carry. We did it in June and had no problem at all
Snowysmom Posted August 10, 2013 #31 Share Posted August 10, 2013 I am curious about the chairs for rental at the beaches. Are they the traditional low to the ground beach chairs? I have knee arthritis and cannot get into or out of those chairs so was thinking of bringing my own canvas chair that is rolled up into a carry over the shoulder bag. brucelegs Posted August 11, 2013 #33 Share Posted August 11, 2013 We ordered this cabana just for our upcoming trip - packs small into a case, easy to set up and carry with us http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009PUTIE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=
pattycakes Posted August 16, 2013 #34 Share Posted August 16, 2013 I did it way back in 2004 or 2005. We used to go to John Smith's Bay where there wasn't a rental stand anymore If you'd rather spend your money on other stuff go for it. We just tagged them and dropped them off with luggage. hazeleyes46 Posted August 14, 2018 #37 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Put an extra $45 in your budget for chairs and an umbrella. After all you are going to spend on a cruise, this is a drop in the bucket :)

I didn't realize you would go to beaches for 3 days. I just never understand people nickel and diming certain things on vacation. Have fun, Bermuda is the best :)

Would beach chairs fit that criteria?
Charles4515 Posted August 14, 2018 #43 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Very true. We only had 1 day this time so we just headed to Horseshoe but we knew before going there how much everything cost from the rentals to the food and drinks lol :) The chairs they now rent at Horseshoe are much better than the chairs they rented in 2013 when this thread was started. I would definitely pay the $45 for two chairs and umbrella at Horseshoe over bringing may own there since they now have comfy lounges. They will place the chair for you and anchor the umbrella in the sand.
Charles4515 Posted August 14, 2018 #44 Share Posted August 14, 2018 (edited) I was under the impression that you could not bring anything on a bus that would not fit in your lap or under your seat. Would beach chairs fit that criteria? There is space for fold up strollers and fold up wheelchairs on the public buses but I don’t know if the drivers will allow fold up chairs in that space. I never personally noticed any chairs on the public buses but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be allowed if they fold up. Your question is a good one but I don’t know the answer to that. I have seen chairs on beaches that people brought themselves. So that was the question I was answering. You can bring your own. They may have brought them on taxis or maybe they were locals who bought them on personal cars or maybe they brought them on a bus. I didn’t think to ask them how they transported the chairs. CarolRoy Posted August 15, 2018 #45 Share Posted August 15, 2018 We ordered this cabana just for our upcoming trip - packs small into a case, easy to set up and carry with us http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009PUTIE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Last month we got a "free" gift from the Parx casino. It is similar to the one you listed. It folds up quick and goes into a carrying case. It's red with the casino logo. Can't miss us. Not sure if we are taking chairs. Ship's towels are fine for us to sit on. Just need to have shade. Will be leaving in a few weeks on the Summit.
bambiying Posted September 16, 2018 #46 Share Posted September 16, 2018 3 years ago I had one of those portable cabanas in my suitcase. My suitcase never made it to my cabin. Turns out they had it down in security where they made me remove the cabana and they confiscated it until the cruise was over. They said that the little metal spikes you use to hold it in the sand were a security risk because I could use them as a weapon. This was on the Celebrity Summit. spdwain Posted September 18, 2018 #47 Share Posted September 18, 2018 We recently bought an Otentik Sunshade and are thinking of bringing it on our cruise. It comes in 3 sizes and has 2 collapsible aluminum poles. It is very lightweight and comes with a bag that you can sling over your shoulder. It would take up little room in a suitcase and would be easy to get on a bus. It is easy to set up and what I like about it is that it is very open so air can circulate. We have had the pop ups that are open on one side and even with the "windows" they get very hot in the sun. Instead of stakes you fill up four bags with sand. The sand shakes right off when you take it down. It is even machine washable. http://www.amazon.com/Otentik-Beach-SunShade-Original-Sunshade/dp/B01M9I9EQL/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1537286618&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=otentik+sun+shade&psc=
fairygirl1 Posted September 26, 2018 #48 Share Posted September 26, 2018 I brought this sportbrella chair on 2 of my trips to Bermuda. I knew I was going to beaches that didn't have chair rentals. It has it's own umbrella and fold into a bag that you can carry on your shoulder. I didn't take a bus though, we went in a taxi. It fits under the bed or you can stand it up in the closet. I just put a luggage tag on it and it was delivered to my cabin with my luggage. http://www.amazon.com/Sport-Brella-BRE03-575-04-Beach-Chair-Blue/dp/B004ZJNUCW/ref=sr_1_4?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1375589698&sr=1-4 Can you tell me which beaches DONT have rental umbrella's and chairs?? I will say I thought the same thing when I made this post and we spent 90% of the time in the water.
