Johnny Rockets

Recommended Posts

Coming from this side of the pond we loved Johnny Rockets.

Made a very nice change from other venues and the dancing waiters are good fun.

Maybe that was why I was a little disappointed. We didn't get dancing waiters. I really didn't think there was a great deal of atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, the staff were great, polite, friendly but other than a muffled group-hello and goodbye, there wasn't anything to make it stand out. Maybe the narrow JR interior on the Liberty doesn't help. I did enjoy the 50s music, I always do, but wasn't so struck on the more modern UK hits they were also playing in there.

I once went to the JR in Mississauga with friends. We went in, looked at the menu, and walked out! It was SOOO expensive.

So the cover on the ship doesn't seem too bad, and I can bet you would have spent way more at a JR on land.

That being said, burgers, friends and shakes aren't my cup of tea, so I can't see my husband and I going there during our cruise.

Also, we have a bar across the street from us that has THE BEST burgers, and any burger I eat gets compared to it (hand made fresh patties, perfectly seasoned with amazing toppings and fresh buns). If it's not as good as that, it's definitely not worth it!

Kelv: It sounds like you got a raw deal. No dancing? No enthusiastic greeting! That is one of the things we enjoy. Especially the greeting. We usually start joining in which is quite fun. You should see the looks on people's faces when they walk in. They are so surprised.

Anyhow, we love JR, but we have an 11 year-old who likes to eat there and then let us go out to dinner ourselves a couple nights so . . .

By the way, you can get a shake to go w/o the cover charge. Also, they let us join our daughter while she ate and didn't charge us. We just told them that we weren't eating. We didn't push the issue. That said, we went there a few time so they knew us! ;)

Kelv, next time you go you will have your coupons so I'd give it one more try at least. Hope you have a better experience next time.

We get tired of the MDR or fine specialty restaurants every night and usually enjoy dinner at Johnny Rocket's once on a cruise. We are just a couple so the cover charge is about $10. We drink water with dinner all the time, so we don't have the added cost of soda or milkshakes. To enjoy Johnny Rocket's and keep the cost down, you could always choose a free drink option...

I would love to try a milkshake at Johnny Rocket's but just can't eat a full meal there and a milkshake too. Of course, we are not teenagers! I am sure they could and would!

Koohiichan, thanks for that and everyone and everything deserves a second chance. I don't know what you mean by coupons though. This was our first RC cruise, but it was booked through a TA, which may make a difference.

We always go to JR once, if not twice per cruise. It is just the two of us so $10 total and that seems reasonable. We don't have a JR at home, so it is a nice treat. We keep saying we're going to get a shake, but have yet to do so. Maybe on the Allure we'll go in just for a shake to go or something.

I much prefer the burgers in JR over those in WJ. But that is my opinion. They're fresh and hot!

I would be shocked at a $48 bill for 4 of us though! I think you would have enjoyed it the same without the shakes, and then it would have been a more reasonable $23-$24 with taxes. I can't remember, but it seems like it had the charge on the menu for the shakes. That or I just knew to look for it from my previous CC reading and knowing I had a coupon.

Agree with everything you said. No Johnny Rockets around here either and while the double burger I had on the ship wasnt the BEST burger Ive ever had, it sure beats those "beef patties" in the WJ.

It was certainly worth the 10.00 or so for my mother and I to eat there on Freedom.

We actually had our shakes on another day while we were in St Thomas. They were very much worth the +/- 5.00 for two of them with our coupon.

Another fan of JR here - not the best burger I've ever had but pretty darned good and a nice change of pace - plus on Navigator you can get table service while you sit outside. On my 14-day TA last year we wen twice, which seemed about right - enjoyed it a lot both times.

While the Soda Package does work at JR, officially PibbXtra and Root Beer are not as they are only available at JR on the ship. I think the waiters and waitresses are a little embarrassed by this, but those are the 'official' rules.

I would think that the draft and Bud/Bud light beer would all be included though as they are available in all outlets.

We eat at JR now and then at home. Now at home they also have sweet potato fries. And as you said, a fun place to go and better burgers than the WJ, and great shakes. Plus you can have your burger ( tuna melt is good ) on whole wheat bread.

In MHO OP you are right. After all it's diner food. I rarely go there, only if I am with a friend who really wants to try it. It's not worth it, the hamburgers and ff are fine in the Windjammer and many other places.
If you really want to experience a Johnny Rockets, do it on land...they have a much more extensive menu than on the ship.
They dont have Johnny Rockets in UK which is where the OP is from.

We used to have them in Australia, but that hasnt been the case for a good few years now.
