s.s. Rotterdam in good hands!

I just received this e-mail from the Steamship Rotterdam Foundation:

 

Beste/ Dear Douglas Newman

 

Vandaag is tijdens een persconferentie in Rotterdam bekend gemaakt dat het s.s. Rotterdam uit het faillissement van de ssRotterdam BV is gekocht door een consortium dat bestaat uit Woningcorporatie Woonbron en investeringsmaatschappij Eurobalance BV. De nog op te richten onderneming "De Rotterdam BV" deed een succesvol bod met als doel het schip een attractieve functie te geven gecombineerd met een unieke maatschappelijke vorm van wonen, leren en werken. De transportakte is vandaag bij de notaris gepasseerd. De nieuwe onderneming gaat snel van start ***** het schip gereed te maken voor gebruik. Als eerste zal het schip asbestveilig worden gemaakt en een dokbeurt krijgen. Het is de bedoeling dat het s.s. Rotterdam volgend jaar in gebruik kan worden genomen. Er zal nauw worden samengewerkt met onder meer het Albeda College. De nieuwe eigenaar heeft met de Stichting behoud stoomschip Rotterdam een intentieverklaring getekend met de volgende inhoud:

“De Rotterdam en Stichting behoud stoomschip Rotterdam zijn het erover eens dat het s.s. Rotterdam behouden dient te blijven als uniek industrieel, cultureel en maritiem erfgoed en spreken gezamenlijk de intentie uit een duurzame relatie te willen opbouwen met als doel in goede samenwerking, met respect voor wederzijdse belangen en standpunten, al het nodige en mogelijke te doen ***** de doelstellingen van de Stichting behoud stoomschip Rotterdam te realiseren. Zij zullen de samenwerking de komende tijd nader gestalte geven.”. De stichting zal onder meer adviseren over de technische en museale kanten aan boord.

U kunt zich voorstellen dat wij heel tevreden zijn met dit resultaat!

 

Today during a pressconference the news was brought that the s.s. Rotterdam has been sold by the bankrupt “s.s. Rotterdam Ltd.”. The new owners, a consortium of Woonbron (a housing company) and Eurobalance (investor), intend to use the ship for the purposes of living, working and learning in the port of Rotterdam. The Albeda College has been contracted for this. At first an asbestos-safe situation will be created and the ship will go into drydock. Next year the ship will be ready for use. The new company is called “De (The) Rotterdam” A letter of intent has been signed with the Steamship Rotterdam Foundation which reads a follows:

“The Rotterdam and the Steamship Rotterdam Foundation agree that the s.s. Rotterdam must be conserved as a unique cultural, industrial and maritime heritage, and intend to work together in a sustainable relationship with the aim to do all that is necessary to reach the objectives of the Steamship Rotterdam Foundation. This letter of intend will be detailed in the near future. The Foundation will among other things advise the new company about the technical and museum functions on board.

I am sure our members will join me in congratulating all those at the Steamship Rotterdam Foundation and elsewhere who have worked so hard for the preservation of this magnificent ship.

 

I am looking forward to seeing this project develop further, and would like to wish all those involved with this venture the best of luck in the future.
