ggraphix Posted August 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2013 We are going on the Baltic cruise in a month or so and our NCL ship offers an excursion to this museum, along with a tour of some of the downtown highlights. The museum's website shows it being closed starting in September. Does anyone have any information on this attraction?
Subarctic Posted August 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2013 You can get a far better sense of Finnish folk traditions by taking the metro to Itäkeskus from the Railway station and eating a pizza there!
syesmar Posted August 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2013 I was recently in Helsinki, but didn't go to the Open Air Museum, although I was interested (went to the Open Air Museums in Stockholm & Oslo, though). You mentioned you had the website address, but for others interested: http://www.nba.fi/en/museums/seurasaari_openairmuseum I know independent passengers can get there by taking Bus 24, with the last stop being Seurasaari. Timetables: http://aikataulut.ytv.fi/linjat/fi/h24.html We took Tram 3T/3B and used it as hop-on, hop-off transportation, following Rick Steves' self-guided tour. The tourist info just outside the port gave me the leaflet explaining the sites along the route. We took the local bus into town (the stop is just outside the port). We purchased a transportation day pass on the bus and it included all public transport, including the ferry to the Suomenlinna Fortress. We had a wonderful time in Helsinki.
