Tips for La Coruna

Hi everyone,

We will be on Ventura in Aug stopping at La Coruna, I have had a search here and google, but can’t seem to find too much info.

Any tips of what to see/do whilst we are there? Just looking to chill out, odd bar to people watch and perhaps a church.

Thanks for any help

La Coruña is in Spain, not France, so you might want to ask your question on that board. But since we are here: if you haven't already visited this, I would highly recommend a tour to Santiago de Compostela, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is home a very interesting medieval cathedral that Catholics believes houses the ashes of St. James. It is the destination of thousands of pilgrims each year, who come on foot and by bike (like those happy guys below), following El Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James). You don't need to be Catholic or religious to appreciate the cathedral, the town of Santiago, or the history. But if you are determined just to stay in La Coruña, you should be able to just walk around, find an old church near the port, etc. We docked right in town, was easy to just walk around. (And you are right, not too much there that is special for visitors. Some folks went out to the Tower of Hercules.)

We were set to do a self-directed trip to Santiago on our La Coruna stop but it was pouring and felt the trip was just not worth it in the rain.

We basically walked around the town a bit, hit a church or two and shadowed a walking tour from our ship for a while (just curious to see where they would go).

We found a wonderful couple of shops and one gem in particular. A Jamon shop. We were in heaven. Hams hanging from the ceiling, legs in different stages of carving. We sat out of the rain, had a few cervezas and some of the meat delicacies.

We watched a German couple from our cruise come into the shop and purchase 600 Euros worth of salumi, charcoutrie and jamon. We later ran into them on the ship at the indoor pool and mentioned that we saw them in the shop. They said that those items were so expensive back home that whenever they stopped at this port they would stock up! (Helps that they were driving home from our final port of Amsterdam!)

Considering the we were on such a port intensive cruise - it was a nice relaxing day - spending a little time in port and spending a little time back on board taking it easy and enjoying the ship.

Ar it would help being in the correct country lol,

Thanks for the info, thought I might be missing stuff, looks like a nice wander around, few drinks, a church or two, and watch the world go by.

What a fine looking crew! Cheers,
