stuNYC Posted July 1, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2005 Although a Celebrity Suite is much larger it doesn't have a balcony but floor to walk windows that do not open. I for one would take a balcony in a sky suite over a larger suite without a balcony, especially when the sky suite is considerable cheaper Is it meant for families because it appears to have several pull out sofas
RockyTopMom Posted July 1, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2005 What Celebrity Ship are you considering? I don't know of any Celebrity Ship that does NOT have a balcony on the suite???? Some of the Aft Cabins, such as on the Mercury and Galaxy do not have balcony's, but they are not suites, just aft cabins, which are larger for families. Are you sure you are looking at a suite? nu2sea Posted July 1, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 1, 2005 We took the Celebrity Suite because the price difference wasn't that great on the cruise we selected. It was an Alaska cruise. I don't know if we would have decided on the Sky Suite on a warmer itinerary, but it is probable that we would have wanted a balcony. The main reason for us was the room. I knew that my DH would have to be thrilled with his experience if I was ever going to get to cruise again, so I went with the much larger room for the little extra $$. He was thrilled, I'm getting a RS on our next cruise and he opted for the CS on our Transcontinental crossing next spring. So, for me it worked. Suite selection, like the preference for C or M class ships, is rather subjective. For us, we loved the extra space and since we live in a desert climate we have become accustomed to enjoying our own views through a glass window (it's often too hot to venture outside :) ). And the floor to ceiling windows extend the room outwards so more of the view is visible, regardless how we are dressed ;) . Thankfully, there are both types of cabins available. There was only one sofa in the Infinity's CS, but overall it would provide more room for three or more passengers.
RockyTopMom Posted July 1, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2005 :o WHOOPS...I forgot about those two Celebrity Suites per deck on ships such as the Infinity and Summit. I stand corrected.. Please ignore:o
PathfinderEss Posted July 1, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 1, 2005 We just got back from Alaska, on the Infinity. We chose the CS because of the larger room, and oh those beautiful floor to ceiling windows, WOW what a view. On an Alaskan cruise a lot of the time it is too cold to enjoy your balcony. Now if we were going to warmer climites, we would probably chose a balcony room like the Sky Suites. I do enjoy the fresh air you can get by leaving your balcony windows open. There was only the 2 of us. We also enjoyed the butler service you get with this room.
chessbriar Posted July 1, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 1, 2005 My wife and I did the CS on the Summit last year. We are not ones to just sit on the balcony. Our time there is always breif. A half hour here and there. But we love the views. And there are no better views of the ocean than what you get from a CS. If I had the money, this would permanently be my room of choice. You mention that it is set for families. I have tried to book for 4, the most they seem to allow it 3. Hoepfully, it changes. Where the bathroom is placed, off the bedroom, it would not be an easy walk for anyone to make at night from the sleeper sofa.
themirsk Posted July 1, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 1, 2005 Actually...... if we had the money, we could very easily spend the rest of our lives on one of the Celebrity Suites!!! ;) There is nothing like it. We did one on the Summit in Alaska... and the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows were breathtaking. We also did the Panama in a Celebrity Suite - and viewed the Canal in the cool comfort of our cabin. That evening we tendered off Panama City. We opted not to get off the ship and decided to have our dinner in the cabin. It was a beautiful clear evening and the views of the city were spectcular! Our butler set the table in front of the windows....and served our dinner.....one course at a time. Needless to say, it was the highlite of our cruise! While on the subject...........The Celebrity Suites on the three newest "M" class ships all have a fantastic cd/tape music system. On the Summit - it's on the wall (next to the dining room) over the bar and mini-fridge. We'll be doing the Millie (Transatlantic) this November and again have a CS. Pictures we've seen of the Millie #6104 seem to have a painting on that wall instead of the music system. If anyone has stayed in #6104 on the Millie....would appreciate if you could tell us if there is some kind of cd player in the cabin. stuNYC........we've also done sky suites (#6145 with the largest balcony) and would take a CS in a NY minute!!! Enjoy...:) M&M's
Iamboatman Posted July 1, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 1, 2005 Two summers ago we cruised the Med and it was horrifically hot. You simply could not beat sitting down in the big comfortable chair with your feet up on the ottoman with a cold drink watching the world go by with that huge view looking foward to about 2/3 aft. Taking a shower with the view out to sea wasn't so bad either. Nor was taking a really good nap on that real 7' sofa. I've cruised on Seabourn and Radisson (among others) and clearly the CS is a better suite than there standard ones. (Ironically...or better...frustratingly, it was less expensive for me to pay for 2 balcony suites on Radisson than 1 CS for my Alaska cruise this summer. Go figure!) flashdog_1 Posted July 1, 2005 #9 Share Posted July 1, 2005 I was advised recently that the Celebrity Suite is good for people who want to sleep while others are enjoying the view etc. because it has a separate bedroom with a door that closes and blocks out all light. It was a smaller, hybrid boom box/component systems. It was on the wall to the right of the computer, as I recall (but it's been 3 years, they might have upgraded). Agree that for space the CS is great -- though we also had warm weather in the Med and the solar gain through those windows was almost too much for the AC to handle. We had a party one afternoon and had to move to a friend's cabin as it just got too hot with all the people plus the heat from the windows. But views were spectacular -- and if you like a dark room to sleep in, the CS cannot be beaten. :D

mikiew Posted July 2, 2005 #14 Share Posted July 2, 2005 We booked a Celebrity Suite for the Hawaii cruise April 9, 2006. I would enjoy the big windows more than a balcony...........We usually have a balcony or a suite with a balcony, but the layout of the cabin looks great, and have heard terrific things about it. Frankly, when it get's hot, we do not use the balcony. It seems like the chairs are always wet, and you can always go up on deck.
Troy1_98 Posted July 10, 2005 #15 Share Posted July 10, 2005 I have had the CS twice on the Millenium. Needless to say I really enjoy the suite. While it is sometimes nice to have a balcony, I love the extra space and find it a real thrill to watch the Pilot come aboard and leave right under the window. Other aspects I like of the CS- Dining Room Table for breakfast in the Room Butler Service Bedroom that does not have windows or sliding doors to let the light in. Great to sleep late after late night partying. In-Suite computer Two Flat Panel TV's Stereo System When I want a balcony I go down to the deck just off the Casino and have a very private balcony all to myself. F5Loar Posted July 13, 2005 #16 Share Posted July 13, 2005 The big window is a plus for sure but do they keep it clean? Most I have seen are very dirty to where you can't really see out them. Hardly not worth it for the view in that case. The balcony doors are keep clean by the steward but he can't reach those outside windows every day. There is actually a little machine that goes up and down and washes them. We got to see it work on our Alaska cruise. I took a couple of photos where you can see the water drops, but it really isn't a problem. They are kept, like the rest of the ship, pretty clean. :)
