Had a really GREAT customer service experience?

Boats, Trains, Planes ... things go wrong. We never consider that it will happen to us (til it does!). I am looking for a service cruise provider that really looks after its passengers if something goes wrong. Sometimes when we are well treated the positive message does not make it to the message boards.

Having just experienced a very negative customer service experience, I am looking for a new cruise provider.

Has anyone had a big disappointment, or better still, a disaster, that has been really well handled. I'd value that information over the size of the pool or the price of the wine.

I have been watching your postings on a couple boards and finally can't help myself....

I get that you had about 12 hrs of what you feel was "hell" and you are not pleased with how Oceania (or was it Regent?) handled it. Ok I get that!

But 12hrs ruined your entire Holiday??? I don't think so, this happened in May and this is August and you have let this "fester" sorry if you did not get the letter that you should have gotten but move on!

Stuff happens on cruises and you happened to have on of those happenings, unbelievable that you think a cruise line would intentionally go off and leave half the ships passengers on a whim....

Time to have a better day and suck it up and move on!

PS I've been to port in MC and it is teeny tiny and if I recall only room for one or two ships to actually dock, if the port authorities say you need to move then you move. If the weather turns you move, but you don't go off and leave half of your passengers unless there is a huge issue and apparently that is what happened to you.....no conspiracy, just one of those things!

I have to agree. If this were really a case of "hell" then you know all the media outlets would have been all over this story.

I guess I really want to understand what the OP wants now from the cruise line. It is clear that the OP will not be swayed to cruise this line again. At this point the OP has gone on a one woman internet smear campaign. Unless the OP is a well known blogger/internet personality then the travel industry has gotten a thick skin and realizes that they are never going to make internet complainer happy.

You have already mentioned what you would have liked at the time (a letter under your door that evening and a 25% cruise discount) but that didn't happen. What would you like them to do now? If you are going to complain about wanting resolution then you need to ask for something specific and reasonable.

I am puzzled about wanting a 25% discount on a future cruise.

If this cruise line is so unacceptable to the poster, why would a discount tempt them to return?

When we received a very generous offer for the miserable experience we had that I referenced above, we discarded it and it went unused. We chose to not return to that cruise line even for free.

I wonder whether finding reports of "very unfortunate circumstances" may be the difficulty here. Obviously, you can search for CC reports from the recent and not so recent cruise Lines incidents -- Carnival ship strandings, power failures, or Princess or RCCL fires, etc. There are lots of websites where you can get info on specific incidents on specific ships, and search for CC members who have posted their experiences.

It is certainly a good thing, overall, that most cruisers cruise safely and happily, and most cruises end well!

If you are looking for opinions about customer service regarding missed ports, blocked toilets, wrong cabin assignments, etc. -- issues that may be considered minor to some and major others -- they certainly are available here. Most postings of this sort are likely to be negative, I think, by posters using the CC boards for one of their most popular purposes -- venting.

As this thread continues you may attract just the kinds of reports you are seeking. If time goes by and this does not happen, perhaps starting a new thread with a different title : "Bad cruise experience but good customer service?" or "Did things go wrong, but cruise line satisfied you?" or "Tell me about good customer service after a negative incident" or something like that, you may get people to understand the link you are trying to make. I think the wording of a title is everything, as that is what CC'ers first see, and only find out the specifics of the topic if they are attracted enough by the title to click on the thread.

Whole heartedly agree. If you read the other thread I had that same conversation withy "Balloonman". I started this trtead asking about good recommendations and others have asked what bad experience I had and all I have been doind is answering questions. As for 'festering' I only got my letter 2 weeks ago. Thats when I looked here to find out if anyone had heard anything else.

I have long moved on and my question on this thread was "does anyone have any recommendations for a good cruise line?" so I could select a different cruise provider.

Yes MC is tiny - our berth was there - empty. No conspiracy - they went elsewhere for a repair to suit operational needs - believe me I am over it.

Still makes Oceania a poor service provider in my eyes. I never mentioned "hell" and I never said it ruined our whole holiday - I have actually been very complimentary about the first part. It did ruin the end of our holiday and it was an unpleasant experience and the company did not handle it well - end of story.

Absolutely true - I did not want a discount. I had my customer service hat on when Nola asked me the question "What do you think they could have done?" I presumed she was asking what would I have done if I was in Oceania's shoes and I had to handle the situation.

I was only suggesting a possible reaction that might have helped them retain customers.

Thanks Seagoingmom

I am a bit over it all really. People seem to think I am venting. I have never been on one of these sites before. Started when I tried to find out what had happened to others on that cruise (there were a lot) and I answered Evelyn. Then I thought - "get away from that negative stuff and ask for some good stuff" and just got dragged down the rabbit hole again. I think one attempt to ask for help/advice is enough for me. Perhaps I'll Google 'Great Train Journeys of The World'. :)

All the questions came from you Nola - I was actually wondering why you were so interested. As for 'one woman internet smear campaign' - heaven help us... are you kidding? I looked for others on the cruise after I got my letter and responded to a lovely lady in England. That thread became very negative so started a new thread asking for positive info, then foolishly answered a lady asking me to "spill the beans' and then answered your questions. I am over it. These are prickly little places and you can't tell what anyone's motives are. Mine? Genuinely wondered what happened to others then asked for advice from others who seemed to have much more experience than I do.

I am outta here.

QueenA, I personally have not experienced any situations you are asking about (thankfully). But recently RCI had a fire on one of their ships and most of the passengers seem to think RCI handled it very well. If you do a search on the Royal Caribbean board for "grandeur fire" then you will find many testimonials. Here's a link to one of the threads:

I'm sorry you had a bad experience on your first cruise but glad you enjoyed it enough to try again. Good luck next time!:D

here's my question, not about your actual experience, but about your post (on the other thread and this one) about contacting a company and not getting a response. I just googled the name of the company you mentioned and it's a travel agency, unless I'm mistaken. Did you try to get compensation from them and not from Oceania, which is the cruiseline? If that's the case, I can certainly understand the first one not taking responsibility for your missed days on board. Even though it would be nice if they would help you communicate with Oceania.

But you do understand (again, I don't know the exact details) that if weather conditions change, a ship might end tendering and have to sail, even if there are passengers still in port. If tendering isn't safe, they don't want to risk injuring you. I would guess (since I've never been on that line, only Carnival and Princess) that the ship's newsletter for that day had the contact info for the port agent. This is the person who will help you if you do get stranded in a port.

I think that on any cruiseline, even high end ones something could go wrong and maybe the personnel onboard and/or passengers may not go about resolving a problem the right way to everyone's satisfaction. My last five cruises have been on Princess and we've been very happy with that line. Any problems have been minor (other than one extended family on one cruise who should have been banned as the parents let their kids run amok at all hours of the night while they dropped $ in the casino == which could be why Princess was looking the other way, even though this had been the second cruise in a row that people did complain while on board).

My next two cruises had been excellent. But maybe other people didn't have the experience we had. You never know.
