b7440 Posted August 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2013 Has anyone been on the new NCL BREAKAWAY with a travel scooter? I have a TravelScoot and just booked the Nov 10th cruise out of New York. We did Alaska last year On the Jewel, but I rented a scooter for that cruise. Any tips.. Thank You

Any tips..Thank You Do you have an accessible cabin ? If not than the you most likely with not be able to drive/ride the Travelscoot into the cabin. If you have a standard cabin than you will have to get off the Travelscoot and than tilt the scooter so that it fits thru the doorway and manually carry it into the cabin. vickila Posted August 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Elevators are small and extremely crowded at times. Forget about the pool deck. The lounges are so tight, impossible to navigate around. The cabin hallways are narrow and clean up of room service not good and sometimes in the way. Theatre has 3 scooter spaces behind a wall but they are sometimes by moveable high stools. Only one set of chairs without steps in the back aislebif you get off scooter. Horrendous! La Cirque....only floor seating, others are booth and raised. And once seated you cannot get out as lots of performers moving about. Not scooter friendly at all. Another problem room is where Second City and Bingo are held. Dark, weirdly designed room. Not good with scooter. H2O has raised areas where you cannot get to and do not go there any peak times, i.e. fireworks. Forget it. Ice Bar does not allow any scooters or wheelchairs in at all! Main dining room and specialty restaurants have tight seating. Getting to an area can be a problem. Lastly......no access to sport areas to watch......slides, ropes, etc. they say there is a manual lift but no one was ever there. Carlos Bake shop on Waterfront inside not possible. Noodle bar, sushi all high stools. Casino all high tables and stools too and generally very crowded so cannot edge in either. Atrium area gets crowded and people move chairs and block you in during entertainment held there. No aisles. No watchdog person supervising you on or off ramp when entering or exiting in port. If steep have to wait for help. My scooter is powerful, so no problem, but many are not. Only good point was the accessible rooms were laid out nicely, roomy and had nice features. Balcony however too skinny to go out on.....long but not deep. Knees hit in a regular chair, regular person. Scooter just gets in doorway but cannot turn. Also bring an extension cord. Very few outlets to plug in scooter. Did not find accessibility on ship very good at all. Yes there are some improvements such as automatic doors and good ....no bump joiners but overall not happy. tinkandpan Posted August 20, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2013 I agree with quite a lot of what the previous poster said. We were with my dad who uses a wheelchair full time. So not quite your question, but my two cents. Embarkation was easy for him - special area and earlier boarding but we watched a woman with a scooter struggle up the gangway Pool level is very tight with loungers and these glass wind partitions Buffet is tough to maneuver during peak hours and people were pretty rude about stepping on or over his feet. Le cirque we almost had a snack down. Nobody told us regular seats were not accessible and it was horrific the way he was treated. It finally resolved but had he not wanted my little daughter to see the show I think he would have told them to take a hike Elebators are crowded during peak times and only one side of one bank goes to floor 16 No access to the vibe or sports decks. You could use the chair lift but nobody was there ( we were told it would take 30 minutes to get someone there) and to top it off lifts were not cycled daily which means the computers could jam Accessible room was great. My dad was able to use the balcony but he's in great shape and sort of jiggled his way back in. No issue with the dining rooms or restaurants but like poster above mentioned you have to watch the ones with high tops. Overall we had a great time but it wasn't the most accessible ship around. b7440 Posted August 21, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted August 21, 2013 Thank for all the good info! I did the Jewel last summer in Alaska, and had no problems, but this ship can have a lot more people on it! I have a Aft handicaped cabin so that is not a problem.
