bobby67 Posted August 20, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Hi Handy Andy, we haven't used National Express. We travel by rail from Middlesbrough. You could get train from Newcastle to Southampton, either via Birmingham or Waterloo. Check with Trainline. If you book well in advance you should be able to get the journey for 2 persons with railcard for about £120 return. This is much quicker and more comfortable. 1160451 Posted August 20, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2013 We have just traveled on NE from Leeds to London and returned for the first time. we usually book early and use the train but we decided to give it a go on the Coach ....Aaaagh never again.... 6 hours it took. So heaven knows how long it will take from Sunderland to Southampton. Back ached, legs stiff, screaming kids, no stops. Not a good way to start a cruise, but that's just my opinion. Would see option that Bobby suggests. Have a safe trip down and a great cruise whatever you decide.

rdwootty Posted August 21, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2013 Hi The train operating companies website ( cross country via Birmingham) will give you the best prices because they do not charge any fees. In addition , personally I would not travel on the day of sailing and with the journey time you could enjoy a rest before the cruise. Alternatives would be Megabus to London then look at the Megabus site for a TRAIN from London to Southampton ! you may be amazed at the savings. Then overnight will be " free"
