Costa Classica ship

I saw a nice 11 day itinerary of the Canary Is and Morrocco area on the Classica in Jan 2014. I can't seem to find much info about that ship except it is older, smaller, smokey, less activities, no alternative restaurants etc. Just wondered if anyone here has been on it and if you could write about any features or drawbacks to this ship. Much appreciated.

I find the Costa chat are on CC rather small. I know it is an Italian line and probably has mostly Eurpean passengers but thought there would be more activity here to get info.

i haven't been on the classica, but i have been on two of costa's much smaller ships. europa and allegra were both about half the size of classica. i loved them both. sadly, neither of them are part of the fleet anymore. i'm a fan of smaller ships in general, do not need activities to entertain me and am quite satisfied with the MDR cuisine.

you are correct - there will be less activities and dining options. from your previous posts i gather you are accustomed to larger, glitzier ships with more activities and enrichment programs. you also had an interest in movies. you are not going to find the scope and scale of activities you are used to on any costa ship - let alone a smaller one like classica.

costa is pretty smoker friendly. be aware that there are smoking areas in most of the public bars, your cabin, balcony and most of the open decks (not in dining venues or theater, though). if you are at all sensative to smoke please do not sail costa. just a word of caution ;)

you may find this page interesting. there are details about the ship and photos: http://shipstips.com/costaclassica.htm

  • 3 weeks later...

We were on the Classica in June. Of the 3 cruises we've takes with Costa, the service and food were the best on Classica. Yes, it is smokey in the casino, but we are sensitive to smoke and didn't have issues with the smoke anywhere else. The ship is very clean, left ports on time, and the crew was just fabulous. We have also sailed on Pacifica and Atlantica. They are newer, but we've decided the smaller ship had advantages, especially in ease of embarkation and tendering.
