mschulman Posted July 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2005 My DW and I had our first cruise on the Glory on 6/18 and had a great time! Getting on the ship wasn't too bad. We got to the port around 11:30am and were on the ship by 12:30. We hung out on the Lido Deck having burgers and drinks until 1:30 and went to our room. We were in cabin 8455, aft balcony stateroom. I have to say, this room was awesome! We saw some posts on this forum about this room and booked it. The balcony wraps around the side of the ship and you can fit 10 people easily on it! We had some friends that we met on the ship over for some drinking a few nights. The large balcony is also nice if you want to get away if the Lido deck is crowded. We gave our cabin steward a tip on the first day, and we were hooked up for the rest of the week. Shore excursions: We just walked around Key West. This isn't really the best of stops. We weren't there long enough to really appreciate the Keys. We plan on going on a cruise out of Miami next time so that we can rent a car and drive down to the keys after the cruise. There was a good storm, so we came back on the ship early. Don't listen to anyone that tells you that all you need is your Sign and Sail card to get back on the ship. You also need a photo ID. In Belize, we went on the Lost World Canopy excursion. That was awesome! It consisted of a 90 minute drive into the jungle in a tour bus. The tour guide pretty much pointed out every building, tree, and rock on the way. It was pretty educational. There's only 5 traverses in Belize. Because we were 3rd and 4th in line, we went through the course in about 15 minutes. We really didn't have enough time to be scared or even to look around. It was a blast though. We want to go to the one on Roatan next. That one is much bigger. The tender rides to and from Belize City are pretty bumpy, so if you get sick, take your medicine before leaving the ship! In Cozumel, we booked an excursion with Mayan Paradise Tours (http://www.snubacozumel.com) for a Snorkle and Snuba trip. We went on the Catamaran Zorro. We went to 3 reefs. To get there, we got in a cab and took it to Nachi-Cocum beach. It cost 15.00. We snorkeled the first 2 reefs and then snuba'd the last reef. It was fun being underneath the snorklers at the 3rd reef :D. I'm a certified Scuba diver, but haven't gone diving in 12 years, and my DW has never been. This was a great way to see if she'd like to get certified. We're now going to get her certified so that the next trip we can go scuba diving. Her biggest complaint was that the hose wasn't long enough! On the way back, the crew handed out drinks (I drank Rum Punches and my DW drank Tequila Sunrises). Before we knew it, the captain put "Tequila" on the speakers and the crew started going around handing out Tequila shots (double ones). The tequila was mixed with something pink so it wasn't too bad. They massaged our throats so it went down, and then shook our heads. I did three :p. We then danced until we got back to the dock. What a great trip! We highly recommend it. Once we got back to the dock, we stayed at Nachi-Cocum and paid the 32.00 for the all-you-can drink. We also got the buffet which was pretty good. We met up with a couple that we met at our table and went to dinner. After dinner was Carlos and Charlie's, where lots of drunkenness ensued. Progresso. Oh yeah - We were the first cruise to not go there! We were disappointed because we picked this itinerary because we wanted to go to Chichen Itza from Progresso, instead of giving up a day of Diving in Cozumel to go. We'll just have to go some other time. The ship had to really slow down after Cozumel so that we wouldn't get back early. At one point we were pretty much anchored off the coast of Palm Beach, Florida. The Ship: We loved it. The spa was awesome. We spent quite a bit of time there. It didn't really seem crowded except for Monday when we hit a storm. It caused everyone to be below decks. They had their treasure hunt that day, so it gave us plenty to do. The shows were great, and the comedians were hilarious. Just remember, to get anywhere, take deck 5! The Deck party on Wednesday was awesome too. I'm sure the people up on the upper deck were having a great time watching us drunken idiots make fools of ourselves! Go conga lines! The Food: The food was great. The fish and chips were pretty good, and the burgers and pizza on deck were tasty too. We weren't impressed with the deli though (not a big fan of rare, bloody roast beef). The Supper club shouldn't be missed if you have the 30.00 to spare. We look forward to our next cruise.... Oh yeah.... GO BLUE! ;)
tonyrobin Posted July 3, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2005 Thanks for a great review. We are going on Aug 27 and can hardly wait. Were most people dressed well on the formal nights?
AnsJMc Posted July 4, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 4, 2005 We are going on the glory dec 17th. I was so pleased to hear that the ship "slows" down. Although I loved the layout of the Legend, the ship sailed so fast during the day you could hardly walk on deck. You have to hold the handrails and pull yourself along. They do the southern caribbean in 8 days so they really fly. I hated that. The best part about the Legend was that the dining rooms were aft so you could walk across the ship on all decks. That was nice. This time I will be sure to know my way before i get on board. I will remember deck 5, thanks.
mnsawyer Posted July 5, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2005 We sailed the Glory 4.9 and loved it! We too, spent some time in the spa area...it's beautiful! We did the Old Town Trolley tour in Key West...the only way to see the entire island. It was excellent and would recommend it highly but it does take quite a while and we didn't even get off at any stops. The Conch Tour was in an easier location and maybe would give that a bit higher rating but our tour guide was outstanding and we saw so much of the area. I was surprised on our cruise how long it took to get off the ship, etc., in Key West. On our cruise, everyone must have had the same idea...eat lunch before you got off the ship. Took us at least an hour or more to get off the ship and on our way into town. We loved this stop! We had a 8A balcony on upper deck and loved it! Just a few steps from the stairs forward. Great location! 6284. We stopped in Progresso but it was windy and cool that day. Should have done a ruin tour so just spend a little time in town and then to the pier (nice) and then back to the ship. Staying in Cozumel later would have been nice but loved the 4 stops. Will have to go on the Valor next year to get 4 ports! Great review!

dbarry Posted July 27, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 27, 2005 Hi, we are sailing on the Glory western on October 8, 2005. I too am interested in the capers if you have them. I booked this cruise way back in August of 2004, it has taken forever to finally say that we are only 74 days away from this cruise. We are going crazy trying to figure out what we want to do for excursions. I've done the western caribbean several times and feel pretty confident that I could make myself pretty content without spending much money. My sister on the other hand has never cruised before and I'm just not sure what she would prefer to do. We are also interested in "doing" some spa things. Can you give us any ideas about the cost of services? Not just the spa but also the salon. We are trying to decide if we should fix our own hair for formal nights and save the money for other spa things, or indulge with new do's! Who was your cruise director, and were you pleased with them and their assistants? Did you visit the casino? I play black jack, do you remember what the minimum table bets were? Can you describe more about the red versus blue game? Thank you so much for all your input. And please contact me about the capers if you have them: d1954barry@aol.com Darlene
