Galveston & Lone Star Motorcycle Rally Question

OKC Cruisers

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on Carnival Triumph Monday, November 4, 2013. We are planning on coming down to Galveston on Saturday to spend a couple of days enjoying the island. Found out this is the weekend of the Lone Star Motorcycle Rally. So, can anyone from the Galveston area advise us on what to expect. Will the Strand area or Seawall area be overcrowded? Is there any particular areas or particular times to avoid during the Rally? Any information will be helpful!

First of all you probably won't be able to get a hotel room for less than three nights - not including Sunday. Rates are much higher also as this event draws more than 250,000.

The majority leave on Sunday, but Friday and Saturday will find the Strand, Seawall and entire island packed all day and night.

I never want to discourage anyone from coming to Galveston, but if you are not here for the Rally, it is going to be a) difficult to find a place to stay at this late date, b) if you do find something for Saturday night, will be very expensive and c} there are a lot of people!

We do enjoy going to the Strand on Sunday as the event has pretty well round down.

I echo everything Galveston Cruiser said -- if you're headed to Galveston that weekend, and can actually snag a hotel room on the island, you'll likely be constrained to areas far far away from the Strand and the Seawall. The Lone Star Rally is the biggest rally in Texas -- you can Google pics from previous years to get an idea of the magnitude of the crowds that will be there for the weekend.

I would say, enjoy your cruise and maybe visit Galveston a different time? :)

There will be 400,000+- of your closest friends coming and going in Galveston

over the four day event!

The major events are downtown and

there are activites usually on Seawall east of 35th also!

But the activites spread out all over the island!

Stay in any motels west of 61st and higher street numbers

or off the island,

iF you are not interested in particpating in event!

Thanks for all the replies! We already have our hotel reservations made. We noticed right away that the prices for anywhere near the island were more than normal, so knew something was up right away. Just waited until now to ask around and get a feel for the crowds and traffic situation on the island.

We are staying in Texas City on Saturday night and then coming to Seawall on Sunday night (after the rally folks head out). The hotel price on seawall went down from $275 on Saturday night to $68 on Sunday night...hence the hotel in TX City for Saturday. Guess we'll do something else for the day and evening time on Saturday...maybe head to Kemah or go visit NASA!

Again, thanks for all the quick replies! :D
