ajtraveler66 Posted August 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2013 Doing a W. Caribbean cruise in February. One in my party of two (not me) insists that we souvenir shop at some point in our cruise which will hit Belize, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Roatan. What about Belize? Any decent shops near the port....shops where you can get a reasonable price and more importantly shop safely? If Belize isn't the place, which of the other three stops would be the best for safe and fair shopping? Or rank them from 1 to 4 with 1 being the "safest/fairest". Thank you very much. We're trying to get our trip planned and this will help lots.
cherbear4000 Posted September 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2013 All 4 of those ports have a tourist center with a lot of shopping right at the port. It does cost a little more in the port areas than in other areas but you are very safe inside the cruise port. As for which is the best, it really depends on what you are looking for. Cozumel - best for alcohol, vanilla, jewelry Roatan - noted for Mahogany carvings, coffee Belize - has the best hot sauce, Marie Sharp's Roatan and Belize both have Harley Davidson stores right at the port
12reca Posted September 6, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2013 In Costa Maya, there are a bunch of nice stores directly at the pier. Also in town there are many little vendors, however we read on several forums that much of the stuff is not real.
Rare crewsweeper Posted September 6, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2013 In Belize, if you step outside the cruise center, Tourist Village, directly across the street is a little flea/crafts market. Prices are lower than inside the crusie center. Best thing from Belize is the wooden bowls made out of Ziricote wood. Many are multi shaded and highly polished. DO NOT wast any money on cashew wine. But inside the Tourist Village you can buy Marie Sharpe hot sauce (also available at lower prices and maybe more flavors at Brodies downtown but that might be a bit of a hike depending on your plans) and One Barrel Rum.
