Diving Excursion from Falmouth

Starting to look at excursions for a cruise in February. I am a little disapointed that Royal Caribbean doesn't have any dive excursions from Falmouth.

 

I have never been to Jamaica... Is this not a decent area to dive in?

I've not seen any cruise line offer SCUBA in any Jamaican port. There may be a reason for that ... (if there is an excursion somewhere, I'm SURE someone will show me I'm wrong)

 

Do a google search for Jam' dive shops or JA dive resorts and tell us what you find?

 

There is some diving to be found in Jamaica but IME it is not around the port areas. That is ... you can find some dive ops around Negril and Montego and Ocho .. but that's not where you'll find anything close to what I'd call good diving. You need to get away from the cities ... go to Port Antonio for example.

 

When I worked on ships down that way I spent many a R&R day in JA ports and did some diving cuz I had days to burn. I would NEVER plan to go to JA for diving . . . I went because getting wet was better than just sitting in a bar.

 

go to the SCUBA section and search Jamaica ... some discussion there.

Cruise Ships arriving in Falmouth, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. EMAIL us in advance to confirm a pickup. We will pick you up and return you to your ship. Our trips are 1-8 persons on the boat. There is always a guide. We usually pick you up between 8am - 10:00 am but other times are possible and return you at about 2pm - 3pm after a 2 tank dive. If you wish to stop at a TRUE local Jerk Chicken center do not hesitate to ask your driver. Our favorite stpot to stop at is Scotchies in Discovery Bay.

Yea CaptBT there has to be a reason why nothing comes up..... I tried google and no hits except the one you had the http://www.scuba-jamaica.com/villascruiseships.htm.

 

But I have the same philosophy you stated "I went because getting wet was better than just sitting in a bar."

We once did a catamaran snorkel tour out of M-Bay...snorkeling was not very attractive, I guess it was more of a party cruise than actually snorkel tour. We found snorkeling in Cozumel much nicer.

My wife and I stayed on Jamaica a couple of years ago and found that the diving is lackluster. We have a close friend with a house in Falmouth who confirmed what we found after we returned, there is very little in the way of even 'good' scuba diving areas.

 

In fact we only dove once the entire week we were there, and it could have been a beginners dive, bottoming out at 40-50 ft in a small wreck that was post 1950's.
