cruisin_baker Posted September 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2013 What is the best time to get to the MDR when you do your time dining so it's not so crazy busy? Last year on Ecstasy we waited in a huge line to get in to the MDR but we got there at 5:45, so I assume that's too early? Thanks! Rare shof515 Posted September 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2013 too early, since that's almost the same time as early dinning. i think around 6:30 is the ideal time
tlcs Posted September 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2013 We go between 6 and 6:30, and never had to wait.
Jimmy Geegitz Posted September 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2013 We prefer to eat a little later. Usually go about 7-7:30. No wait.
WAHMto5 Posted September 8, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 8, 2013 6:30 or after has always worked out great for us as well.
crusinpsychRN Posted September 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2013 How does it work when they aske if you want to sit with others? Do they put tables together instead of leaving the 8 inches between them? I'm traveling solo and not sure if ATD is going to work.

They'll put you at one of the larger tables (8-10 seats) with other folks.
askimdog Posted September 8, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Our last cruise we chose ANYTIME, mostly because we knew we might not even hit the MDR, or only 2-3 times. (we just prefer the buffet for many reasons). The 2 times we did do evening meal we arrived at 4:45 when it opened. We always get a table for 3 preferring not to dine with strangers. We awake early and have breakfast by 6/6:30 and lunch by 11 or so, and with a child (8 years old) we need an early evening meal with her 8:30 bedtime. The evening meals we did do, we never had a wait at this time.
OCruisers Posted September 8, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Normally around 7:30 or 8:00 ... no waits. It does seem busier on those Elegant Nights. LuLu ~~~
webzila Posted September 8, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 8, 2013 On the Triumph, we would go as soon as it opened at 5 something. There was never a wait. Always got seated right away. There was 2 of us and they never put us at a table with others, we didn't even have to ask and they did not ask us. It was always a table for 2. torcruise Posted September 8, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 8, 2013 They'll put you at one of the larger tables (8-10 seats) with other folks. What if the other people are already pass the appetizer or entree? Do they try to catch you up with everyone else?
CalaDragonflyLady Posted September 8, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 8, 2013 I thought that anytime dining was in a separate dining room (or floor) so that lines wouldn't be an issue between anytime and set dining times?
Jimmy Geegitz Posted September 8, 2013 #14 Share Posted September 8, 2013 I know on the spirit class ships anytime dining is upstairs and assigned dining is downstairs. This class only has 1 dining room.
mistycruiser Posted September 8, 2013 #15 Share Posted September 8, 2013 What if the other people are already pass the appetizer or entree? Do they try to catch you up with everyone else? When you get to the podium, they will ask if you want to be seated by yourself or others. If others, then they will seat you usually within a few minutes with others that show up and say they will sit with others. Basically they'll just create a table for you all and your service will be on the same schedule, appetizers, entrees, dessert.
dancindukes Posted September 8, 2013 #16 Share Posted September 8, 2013 We've had a table for 2 and table for 8. Never had to wait more than 10 minutes. I like that it works around my schedule.
MIZZ_K Posted September 9, 2013 #17 Share Posted September 9, 2013 How does it work when they aske if you want to sit with others? Do they put tables together instead of leaving the 8 inches between them? I'm traveling solo and not sure if ATD is going to work. I always do ATD, and when I cruise solo I prefer to eat alone ( not that I'm anti social ) I just tell them that I would like to eat alone, I've seen plenty of people eating by themselves. bride123105 Posted September 9, 2013 #18 Share Posted September 9, 2013 My husband and I almost always get there 10-15 minutes before they open for minimal wait.
Scooterpi Posted September 9, 2013 #19 Share Posted September 9, 2013 We always get there either before early dining to get in line or wait until between 6-7. I always asked for the same wait staff and a table by ourselves and they always accommodated us.
