SpringBreakMom Posted September 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2013 We are thinking of this cruise for 2014. Can anyone who has sailed this itinerary recommend where the best balcony cabin location might be for views of the ports and sail in/sail out? In addition to port or starboard, does forward, mid-ship or aft make a difference in views? Thanks!
snow bunny Posted September 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2013 You will want to be on the port side for the sail into Venice, assuming they still allow the ships to enter. Nothing quite like having room service on your balcony as you sail in! Snow bunny
computerworks Posted September 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2013 You will want to be on the port side for the sail into Venice.. Isn't it port-side-out, starboard-side-in for Venice, facing St. Mark's?
snow bunny Posted September 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Isn't it port-side-out, starboard-side-in for Venice, facing St. Mark's? Guess my coffee hasn't kicked I yet, definitely starboard side for sail in!:o Snow bunny

Azure Moon Posted September 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 8, 2013 We had a balcony near the front on the starboard side, which is the side where you'd be able to see St. Mark's Square, Doge's Palace, and more things to see early on. But we went up to the top decks rather than stay on our balcony when we sailed towards Venice. By being on the top decks, we were able to see, and take pictures, scenery on both sides of the ship, the front, and the back of the ship. Beautiful sail in, you will love it! We did the same, being on the upper decks when sailing in to Istanbul and the rest of ports. We like being able to see as many directions as possible. By being on top when pulling into port in Istanbul, we were able to see large birds and large grasshopper(y) insects on the deck. The birds were going after the insects and we got a picture of a bird eating one of the grasshoppers.
SpringBreakMom Posted September 8, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted September 8, 2013 Thanks for the tips! I did hear the Istanbul sail in was lovely (although I could do without the grasshoppers LOL).
