CruzLover80 Posted September 12, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 12, 2013 Both are regular ports. However, if you want to do anything in Freeport you have to take a taxi to Port Lucaya.
Rowan555 Posted September 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 12, 2013 Both are regular ports. However, if you want to do anything in Freeport you have to take a taxi to Port Lucaya. Last time we went, the shuttle van was $5 pp each way, and they didn't start shuttling back to the ship for over an hour after we got there - we found nothing worth seeing and were ready to go back to the ship, but we had to stand in front of the casino for 45 minutes waiting for enough people to fill the shuttle van before the driver would go back. IMO, unless you want to hang out at the casino or REALLY enjoy shopping (and seeing the same things you just saw in Nassau all over again), plan to book an excursion either independently or through the ship, or just stay on board. There's a little shopping area you can walk through right by the ship without having to mess with the shuttle. It's not much, but if you just want to check out some shopping, you can do that and save the ten bucks per person.
onegroundcafe Posted September 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 12, 2013 Waiting 45 minutes???!!! I would freak out I would miss the ship...is this a normal thing? We were thinking about Junkanoo beach resort...but a 45 minute wait would definitely be a deterrent.
CruzLover80 Posted September 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 12, 2013 I've been to Freeport many times.... There is absolutely nothing to do there but casino and beach, which is nice some times. I'm not a gambler so I typically opt to sit at the beach and go to our usual restaurant. There is a restaurant in Port Lucaya that we have always eaten at which is awesome... can't tell you the name other than it's right across from the chinese restaurant. They sell traditional island food, which is not everyone's cup of tea. I'm pretty easy to please so a wait wouldn't bother me unless it's really close to sailing time.
