Are you asking about any Gem sailing or about a specific sailing date?

 

Just wanted to catch up on ship/crew in general. it has been a year since I was on Gem... . and love hearing from recent cruisers...(and not many people actually do reviews ;))

Just off the GEM yesterday and we had a great cruise :D:D Will be posting a review soon, any specific questions in the meantime?

 

Will wait for your reiview.thanks .! But was considering the Brazilian restaurant..did you by chance fo there?.....AND--please tell me that the casino was paying out big jackpots :D:D

We did go to Moderno's and I enjoyed it. DH was so-so, he likes his meat rare and had a tough time getting it that way. They did try to please him but it just wasn't meant to be. At least he liked the Flan!

 

The casino was so-so, I heard that someone hit $15,000 on one of the slots and there were a number of $1000 hits on the wheel of fortune spins. During our slot pull one of the ladies hit $400 on the spin so we all left with $27 :D

One more thing...I saw somewhere that they were again/still not letting "limo" pick ups at the pier...still having to go across the street.. yes???

 

 

I did see some limos on the second level and our friend did pick us up there. I think they were trying to get more folks to go to the first level as the traffic was really backed up with 4 ships returning that day :eek:

thanks!!! I have done that walk across the street with all my stuff. and find a good place to wait......not the best way to end a cruise ....:o

I saw the person winning $15,000 on the quick hit machine, but that was the only hand pay I saw all week. I would say the machines were very tight, as well as the comps. Luckily we had the free drinks casino card because we booked the cruise through a Foxwoods promotion. I earned 2300 points by the last day, and inquired about getting a comp at one of the specialty restaurants and was turned down. If you get 2500, they will give you $25 off your cruise bill. The worst part of the casino was the smoke!! They don't have any kind of ventilation system noticeable!

 

When we got picked up we weren't allowed off the ship until after 12pm. We had signed up (the gray tags) for the 10am spot to exit the ship, and finally got through customs at 12:45pm. You can pick what time you want to exit the ship on Thursday in the Atrium, looking back I would have picked an earlier time, but I didn't know it would take so long.

 

We ate every night dinner in the main dining room, Grand Pacific. We thought the meals had plenty of selection but with small portions. We liked this so we could try a few different things. We would each get a salad and app and one entrée and then get one more entrée to split and each our own dessert. We would sometimes go early and split a cheese plate to enjoy with our wine. (we also purchased the wine package.)

 

Having open seating was nice because you could go when you were hungry, or time it with a show you wanted to see. We weren't really able to get a close connection to the dining staff, because it was a new person each night.

Do you know who the F&B director is? Last I heard Ludwig Lozano was going on the Gem from the Sun after vacation.

How is Jenny ???

 

We didn't have much interaction with her, but the little we had she was very pleasant and very welcoming.
