dr28326 Posted September 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2013 Taking Carnival Miracle in May. How far from the piers is the walking distance to town to transportation. Husband cannot walk long distances, or has to take it very slow and stop while walking. Can't take excursions that have any climbing or long walking either. Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Victoria I believe are the ports. If interested in renting a car, how far are they from the ports?
trophy_23 Posted September 18, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 18, 2013 It really will depend which dock you happen to be at. In Juneau and Ketchikan you basically dock right in town, but if you happen to be in with 3-4 ships you may be at the further dock. In Skagway it is a bit of a walk to town, but it is flat (there are 2 docks here also so it will depend). In Victoria, you would want to take the shuttle (or taxi) as it is about 15min to town at a brisk walk.
Budget Queen Posted September 18, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2013 Without mobility limitations all the docks (some do shuttle to a central location) are walkable. As mentioned it also depends where you are docking. Victoria has shuttles and taxis at the ship since it is a 20 minute walk to the harbor/downtown area. IF you are going to rent a car, if you have no limitations, why not just go get the car and come back to the dock and pick up your husband? Frankly, if the mobility is that limited, it is also going to be a problem on most cruise ships that have long walks involved. Why not rent/buy and bring a transport or wheel chair?
