do women carry purses to dinner and around with them at night? i know we don't need money, but i know i will need an id for night time drinks, etc. (i'm 27 but often get mistaken for looking much younger) and am used to carrying other things on me but i don't want to be hte only one lugging a purse around. thanks!

I take a little evening bag to the dining room at night. Holds my S&S card, lipstick, cigs/lighter.

I make sure my shorts have pockets. Would never carry a purse around on the ship other than in the evenings. If sunning, I do take a small totebag on deck with me.

I'm the opposite - never touched my purse from the time we got onboard until we left! I didn't see many women carrying purses on our Valor trip - I think it just depends on what you prefer -either way is fine. The nice thing is that your cabin is really handy to go for a makeup touchup or whatever you might need and I always had DH carry my sail and sign card.

Some of the ladies on cruises remind me of Sophia on The Golden Girls - their purse goes wherever they go. Just makes me smile a little every time I see this. Ladies walking around the ship with big old clunky purses just looks a little odd to me.:D

I usually get a tiny little fancy bag that just straps to my wrist or hangs over my shoulder for evenings. Other than that, I just stick things in my pockets or my tote I take to the pool. I never take a "real"purse on a cruise.

I stopped carrying a large purse years ago, when I got tired of everyone in the family stuffing their junk into it. Now they have to carry their own junk. For daytime, I carry the smallest purse I can find if I don't have pockets. For evening, a bag just large enough for a lipstick and seapass card.

If we're at a port where we visit the beach, a beach bag tha my husband will not be embarrassed to carry, so we can share that chore.

Aboard ship, I always carry a small purse for my lipstick, Epi-pen, sunglasses, tissue, sail and sign card and daily activity sheet. I hate stuffing things in my pockets; my hips don't need any additional padding!

On shore, I wear a small backpack so I can also carry our water bottle, a little unmbrella, maps and information about the port.

LOL...oh dear, I'm somewhat embarassed to admit this, but I've purchased <ahem> 3 evening purses. You know, little bitty cute things for show mostly to go with my evening outfits and to hold gloss, tissue, etc, and... oh who am I kidding, I like the darn things! :p

If anyone has a Burlington store near them, go check out their purse selection. I got 2 of mine there for $4.99 and $6.99 and they're well-made and elegant! The other I got online at Ebay for a little more but it is victorian in style and I just had to have it. I know, I know, I need help! But all in all I didn't spend more than $25 for all three, so not bad.

Depending on how the packing goes, one may not make the cut. But truly they don't take up much room and they make me happy. For daytime, there is NO way I'm bringing my real-world purse! I have a very small one that will go over my shoulder and carry my essentials in port. I'm just not a fanny-pack person. DH will probably be carrying something else, haven't gotten that far, probably a tote of some sort- we'll share duties of course!

I forgot to pack my little purse for my last cruise in June and I was really missing it. It isn't big, but big enough for a few tissues, room key card, ID, lipstick, contact eyedrops, etc. Bring a small one - you'll be glad you did.

I'm one of those who never carry a purse on the ship. At night you won't need any other ID other than your S&S card, which I will tell can fit anywhere (waistband of underwear, bra, pocket, shoe, etc) During the day it fits quite nicely in your bikini waistband.

Might be weird, but that is what most people were doing on my ship. Granted it was spring break time, and everyone was in their 20s, but it seemed to work for everyone.

And you'll be surprised if you choose to go purse-less that you get used to it real quick, and this is from someone who goes nowhere without her purse on land!

My mom is notorious for carrying a HUGE bag with her EVERYWHERE! My daughter and I have told her she is NOT allowed to take it with her on our cruise!! We have no idea what all she has in that bag...all she really uses is her wallet that sits on top. So, we took her shopping for a beach bag to use port days and she also bought a small holder for her S&S card. She does have a nice evening bag just the right size for her S&S card, lipstick and kleenex to take to formal dinner. I'm quite sure she'll go through withdrawals without her big bag!

I, too, have a thing for purses:rolleyes: but I like small ones...NO big, heavy bag for me!

I'm 26 and i thought of the same thing. I'm going to bring a wristlet ... you know...those small bags that hang from your wrist. You can get a cute one from coach http://www.coach.com/shop/thumbnail.asp?category_id=240

or bring a small bag that you would bring to any bar/club. Just need a small amount of money (you never know), S&S card, lipgloss/lipstick .

I love small evening bags and usually bring two with me on a cruise that will go with all of my evening attire.

On my last cruise, I used a bronze metallic purse and a black suede one.

Both just big enough to carry my small digital camera, lipstick, room key and some $$$ for the casino.

  • 2 weeks later...

I take a small clear plastic pouch on a keyring with me when I cruise. I attach a wristband to it (looks like telephone wire). Now I have a handy place to put my sign & sail card. (Celebrity Zenith had separate keys from the sign & sail card). This is so small it can almost be hidden in the palm of my hand. I took it with me on formal night, I took it to the pool, I took it with me to the shopping area of the ship. Well you can imagine how easy it was to use. We went to Bermuda on our first cruise and one day I bought an international calling card in Hamilton. I would go off the ship with my little pouch on a wristband with only my driver's license, my sign & sail card and my calling card. I only had to go about 4 blocks from the ship and I made my call home and then got back on the ship. So convienent. You have to go through security each time you got back on the ship and it didn't even get lost in the x ray machine. You won't need a formal handbag unless you want to take one.

Aboard ship, I just put my S&S card and my chapstick in my pocket, and off I went! For formal nights, I too brought a couple of small evening bags - just enough for the card, chapstick, and a comb. Did take the purse ashore - I was charged with carrying the IDs.

I was not sure what to bring for a bag so I did pack my "regular" everyday bag that I use at home but never unpacked it!! I did however use the wristlet type of bag and it worked out just great! For the evenings at dinner I used a small black bag I bought when I was in a wedding and it worked out great!

No purse on board for me except a small velvet one for formal nights. Any other night, I'd bribe DH to carry my card if I didn't have a pocket. During the day, I'm usually in shorts that have pockets for my card. On shore, I have a sling backpack to stow everything.

I don't carry a purse to dinner, but I do carry a shoe bag that holds my dance shoes, lipstick, etc. We love to ballroom dance and it is easier to dance in ballroom shoes as they have suede soles. Because of that you cannot wear them outdoors - and getting the soles wet (crossing the upper decks wearing them is a definite no-no) can ruin them.
