jet ski/waverunner - is it good?

Once you rent a jet ski from redsail or any other reputable outfit, are you allowed to just take it out and go wherever you want or do they take you out to a certain marked off area where you can only go around and around in circles or some other such thing? is it fun, or does it get boring? any and all info would be appreciated!

We rented at Sea Grape. You had marked areas, but the area was quite large. You couldn't go too far left as there were divers and some boats over in that area, but to the right the area was large enough to get up full speed and have a good time. It didn't get boring at all, at least not for us.

We rented at the Hyatt. although we had to avoid the swimmers, there was more than enough room to "play". This is not a lake, so even if you went around and around you'd be in for quite a ride on the waves!
