Freeport Grand Lucayan ?'s

I was wondering if doing a day pass at Grand Lucayan would be considered a safe excursion for a mid-20's mom and her 4 year old daughter? My husband wants to do a fishing excursion and hates the beach, however our 4 year old would hate the fishing. So my plan is to take a van/bus-taxi for $10 round trip to Grand Lucayan and back for the private beach and pools.

I have never been to Freeport and have only done one cruise prior to this one. We did not split up to do separate activities at the ports last time and am just wondering if this is an option or a good idea from those who have been there. Thanks for all the info in advance CC Members!

I think it would be just fine for you and your daughter to head over to the beach while your husband goes fishing. You'll be in a taxi van with a group of people from the ship, all going to the same place and getting dropped off at the same time. They'll try to talk you into buying a return ticket, but you don't have to do that at all. You can purchase the return when you're ready to go back to the ship. You'll go to the area outside of the casino at the hotel to pick up your return taxi van. They will wait to fill the van before they leave to go to the port. So, once again, you'll be in the company of others from your ship.

When you are dropped off at Port Lucaya at the Marketplace, definitely use the hotel beach area--do NOT go down the path by the Police Station where you can access the beach for free. This would be too sketchy for you and your daughter alone in my opinion. When you are at the hotel beach, there will be others there from your ship. I don't believe you need to take towels with you--they should be provided. Seriously, I think you'll be totally safe and you'll have a way better time at the pools and beach vs. fishing. Just be aware of what's going on around you and don't lose sight of your daughter. I actually feel safest in the Bahamas compared to a lot of the other ports we've gone to over the years. Have fun!

Thank you for the reply nodogkisses! I really appreciate all the information. I felt it would be safer to do the van-taxis and the hotel beach for exactly the reasons you listed. Now that someone who has actually been to Freeport concurs that this is a good and safe idea I feel much better about going through with these plans. I'll let DH now he can start planning his fishing trip and looking at some charters :D

Thanks, Luv2Cruz! I was also wondering where you get the day pass for Grand Lucayan? I've read some reviews about a guard shack or towel hut? I'm not sure I understand where I'm supposed to go. Can you not just walk into the hotel and purchase it?
We asked at the entrance to the hotel and they led us to a gate to the right and guard shack was right there!:)
