HAL and Princess support University of Alaska Foundation

I was reading the Anchorage Daily News, as I do every morning (gotta have my Alaska fix;)) and saw an article about how Holland America and Princess cruiselines have joined forces to donate $1 million to the University of Alaska Foundation. The gift will provide funding in three main areas: research and education critical to the health of the sea; training programs that prepare Alaskans for the tourism and hospitality industry; and scholarships that support Alaskans seeking higher education at the University of Alaska.

It was noted that both Princess and HAL, the two largest tour operators in Alaska, had approached the University this past spring with a desire to collaborate with the Foundation in a way that bolstered the state's tourism industry. Together, the two cruiselines employ nearly 3,500 people during the summer season and support more than 1,000 businesses in Alaska.

As a frequent Alaska cruiser on HAL and confessed lover of the Great Land, it is great news to see that both Princess and HAL have partnered in this way - what a nice thank you to the people of Alaska for sharing their beautiful state with the rest of us.:D
