jewopaho Posted September 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2013 We were thrilled to see a very nice (albeit one-time) cruise (February 11, 2015) round-trip Singapore to Thailand and Vietnam. With the Mariner now in Southeast Asia (we very much enjoy Voyager class ships), the fare quite reasonable, and not having the added expense of one-way air in both directions, this one's a no-brainer for us. The bonus is a choice of very inexpensive airfares. Living in Houston ... with oil and gas connections throughout the world ... we have our choice of several airlines that don't serve many US locations. Air China, Singapore, Emirates ... all one-stop (Beijing, Moscow and Dubai respectively) ... with fares as low as $1036 r/t, and no ridiculous layovers. We're looking at Venice for next September, and can't find anything under $1500. So if you can figure out a way to Houston, it's possible to do this cruise for just over $1600 including air. Granted, we're a long way off, and prices can change ... but we've booked overseas flights well in advance before, and have always done nicely. It would be about six months until we could even look at flights, and we'll be booking the cruise on our RCI next sailing in March. Ya gotta love it when a plan comes together ... hopefully the timing will work.

Iluvcruising2 Posted September 29, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2013 Noticed that the Feb 11 2015, MOS sailing has an overnight at Bangkok, Laem Chabang. Singaporeans love Bangkok. My family has gone twice this year.
jewopaho Posted September 29, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted September 29, 2013 Fly Singapore Airlines! http://www.singaporeair.com/(Sorry, shameless plug for my national carrier) Actually, if schedules remain the same or close, we'll likely fly them ... more convenient, and they allow two checked bags per passenger (a major consideration, since we'll be spending a couple of days in Singapore before the cruise, and RCI ships have no laundry facilities). We'd have no intention of leaving the Moscow airport anyway, especially in February. Thanks ... being a "homer" isn't necessarily a bad thing. Well, since you are flying into Singapore, might as well fly Singapore Airlines! If it helps, SQ has just rolled out their new cabin products. This will be progressively done throughout the fleet. My guess is by Jan 2015, almost all their long-haul aircraft would have them. http://www.usatoday.com/story/todayinthesky/2013/09/23/singapore-airlines-takes-delivery-off-luxurious-new-777/2856505/ http://www.relax.com.sg/article/news/sias-new-cabins-take-to-the-skies

I'll certainly have some further questions as we get closer. Looking forward to reading about the enhancements on SAL ... thanks for the heads-up. The airline code for Singapore Airlines is SQ. :):) A recent vid on a long haul SQ flight for your reference:
