Do kids travel cheaper?

We've been cruising for 15+ years and don't know the answer to this question.

Do kids travel cheaper or are they charged the same as an adult fare while they are traveling with their parents?

By kids, I mean, 4 to 7 years old.

Fares are based on two full fare paying people, whether they are adult or child. After the first two, then anyone else in the room will be charged the 3rd or 4th passenger rate.

I'm pretty sure this is correct......if not someone please correct me.....

Rates are by passenger. There are discounts if you're 55+

Keep in mind that on some cruise lines, kids do sail at a reduced rate or even for free. MSC (now sailing year round from Miami) is notorious for having Kids Sail Free promotions. We sailed on Holland America last summer and our 3 year old sailed for a reduced rate while our 1 year old only paid taxes.

It's my understanding that other cruise lines will have Kids Sail Free promotions sporadically. Disney and NCL are two that come to mind. Celebrity currently has a Kids Sail Free promotion as well.

Correct. Look close at the rates though - there are times, depending on capacity that 3rd/4th rates are HIGHER than 1st/2nd or not available at all. (100% capacity on any given ship does not include having all the bunks/sofa beds filled.)
