Princess Shore excursion for disembarkation..if flying to NYC, consider this

We are currently on the Caribbean Princess New England cruise sept 25-Oct 5 and I offer this experience..

FYI—when booking flights in/out of NYC, consider this…JFK and LGA are the most ‘popular’ choices it would seem. Newark not so much….you pay an extra toll to get into the city and it is a bit farther cab wise.

But the couple we are travelling with got another rude awakening…a phone call today from Shore Excursion desk saying their disembarkation tour of NY with final destination being Newark airport is CANCELLED due to lack of interest. So now, they are faced with trying to make last minute arrangements to fill the day. Had they not followed the advice of a good friend who said Newark was the airport of choice from LA (it’s not) and flown to LGA, they would have been fine.

They will try to cab to their pre cruise hotel in midtown and see if they will be kind enough to store their luggage for the day while they tour on their own then go on their own to Newark airport.

I mention this just in case someone has their heart set on doing the NY City tour at the end of their cruise and want to fly in/out of Newark, that this 'may' happen...Princess says up front that if the numbers aren't interested, the tour won't happen but we all like to think it won't happen to us. Have a Plan B just in case.

From LA (assuming Los Angeles), JFK is the airport of choice, not LGA. Several airlines offer non-stop service from JFK to LA, amounting to almost hourly service. Due to a local "perimeter" rule, there are NO non-stops from LGA to LA ... you must transfer somewhere (usually Chicago, Denver or Dallas).

(The "perimeter" rule bars flights of over approximately 1000 miles from LGA. Excluded from this rule are Denver and Dallas. A similar rules applies to Washington National.)

Good advice. They can certainly take the PATH trains from Manhattan to EWR for very low cost too...
