DAWN AE Question

Do passengers in this suite get VIP embarkation and exactly what does that mean.

Also when you order dinners in your room, does the butler bring everything all at once or does he/she bring your meal in courses. If I order chocolate fondue I don't want it sitting around while I eat my main course. ;)

thanks,

In NYC priority embarkation may take a bit of work on your part. When I sailed in the AB in Feb I asked no less then 4 people before I got to board before the long line I was standing in. This was a unique situation however.

Usually they put the people in suites upstairs and they board first. But the ship came in late because of a medical emergency. Everything was delayed and so instead of a steady flow of people they had gridlock. And for some reason people were still getting off the ship as late as 4pm. (never figured that out).

Some here have said that asking pays off so don't necessarily take the first person you speak with word for it because they may not even work for NCL.

As far as the butler and dinner, our experience was that everything was brought at the same time and we were advised to eat the hot things first. If this is typical I have no idea since it was my first experience with a butler.

We sailed on May 15th in an AE suite (9236). When you get to the pier and want to get in line, go to the left. There's a VIP area. If they are boarding, they will take you to the checkin line and you will be on the ship in 15 minutes. If they are not boarding yet, you will have to wait until they start and you will go first. The Dawn has been getting back before 10:00am and this helps.

As for dinner in the room, the butler brings everything but dessert at once. He serves you each course separately. We were only given a choice from the Main Restauarants menus, not Le Bistro. The butler has at least 10 rooms to please and if all are eating in, it gets hectic. Let him know early in the cruise what nights you want to eat in and he'll set aside your time. Breakfast is the same, but he leaves it all at once. You can order anything, just write it in on the breakfast door tag. The butler has a cellphone and you can always get in touch with him. You also have a Butler menur for snacks.

You also get VIP tender tickets (for GSC) and VIP disembarkment. You will get off after the Express Passengers (people who will take all their luggage with them) get off. You meet in Bamboo and the Consierge escorts you off the ship.

You'll also be invited to the Captain's VIP cocktail party on Formal Night.

We had a great time. You're gonna love the extra attention!:)

Guys thanks for the information. We are looking forward to dinner in our skivvies (my DH's word) a couple of nights. ;)

Hopefully, we will be able to find the VIP line. I am hearing the pier does not do well with directions.

Baitman, if we park at the pier will we see this line coming from the parking garage?

I don't know about skivies :o , but the butler will be wearing tails  .

When you come down from the parking, there's a snack bar (next to the freight elevator) on the lefty side of the entrance. You'll see the sign for VIP. There will be people there to check your tickets. If you have to wait, there's a seating area up a few stairs for VIP's.

When are you going? We'll be back on the Dawn on 9/4.

We are sailing 11/20/05. Too far away for me. Can not wait to get on this ship. This will be the first time we can drive to the ship and with butler service we can accomodate our desire to dine alone. I know that most people think the fun of cruising is meeting new people, but we are looking forward to just vegetating and enjoying each others company. I also hate the russian roulette of communuty dining. You never know how you will get along with your tablemates and that is not what I want to focus on at dinner.

We have three works of fiction we plan to read and swap (Bill, Hillary and George Bush's books :p ) and then we both have The Da Vinci Code.

We purposely manuevered for my favorite aft cabin and may never leave the ship. :D

I look forward to hearing your review when you get back.

The Dawn is freestyle, so you can always opt to sit alone, in a quiet corner. They do not sit you with others unless you specifically request it.

Also to touch on that topic. Since you are in a penthouse suite you will be able to make reservations in the main restaurants as well. So, for instance, you could make a reservation for two by the windows in the venetian at 6pm and not have to wait online or worry about sitting with people during peak restaurant hours.... Sometimes during peak times they will ask you if you want to sit with other diners and be sat immediately, being in a suite you will be able to bypass this situation if you wish.

Thanks for the great insight. I have always had a concern about reservation dining. If we make a reservation for 6PM and go down and there is a line, do we go up to the front or wait until they get to us in the line? This may sound like a dumb question but I am always concerned about ticking people off, especially if I am unwittingly not folllowing the "rules".

Amy417,

You will get a form in your room to reserve dinners for the week from the Concierge. Don't wait too long the good times fill up fast. You can always cancel before 5:00pm on the day. I don't know if you can make reservations for the 3 main dining rooms. I know he can do La Trattoria, Bamboo, Cagney's, Le Bistro & Salsa. I'm sure he can do someting for the main ones also, but is't not written anywhere.

The concierge will stop by your room when you get on. Just let him know what you would like and if it's possible. A tip also goes along way;)

We've been on the Dawn twice and have always been able to get a table for two.

You can book the main dining rooms you just have to ask and as stated above a tip certainly helps.. In the past we just walked in front of the line and yes you may get a comment , but remember you paid extra for the VIP treatment.
